MIDDLEBURG, Fla. – Authorities say the 2-year-old son of a north Florida sheriff's deputy accidentally fired his father's personal handgun inside a fast food restaurant.
The Florida Times-Union reports the boy was standing in line for food at a Wendy's in Middleburg on Sept. 4 when he put his hand in his father's front right pocket and accidentally fired the .380-caliber Kel-Tec semi-automatic pistol. Bullet fragments hit the boy's foot, the child's grandfather and two female customers.
According to a Clay County Sheriff's Office incident report released Monday, neither the boy nor the adults required medical treatment.
Spokeswoman Mary Justino says Sgt. Matthew Magish has been with the agency since 2001. She says Magish remains on duty as the investigation continues.

I find this really odd to say the least? A two year old reaching into a pocket? The dad not knowing such? The kel tec has a long trigger pull with some a Heavier pull wight as well. Unless he did some modification to the trigger? This just sounds weird? most people have the pocket guns inside a pocket holster as the gun can't just fall, out of a pocket.........

Well that's the thing with everyone carrying concealed weapons, they don't always use good sense. And, who knows what they've done to modify them. Not too long ago there was a case in Burlington Coat Factory where the guy's gun fell out of his pocket and put holes through a whole wrack of clothes.
The more guns freely carried, the more idiots freely carrying them.
Cheers, Pam

Pam you could say the same with many things not just a firearm. Plenty who should not drive the prisons are full of them on DUI man slaughter or murder charges do we get rid of cars and pickups? Do we make drivers ed far more tedious to get a driving license? To we mandate so many hours and psych evaluation prior to giving out a drivers license?
Of course not everyone who has a gun should be carrying a gun, but it is a freedom to all law abiding and in right mind people to be able to do such in our country. Common sense is not part of the equation in many things in life..........
Our prisons would not be full of that where the case............

Whether this should be a case for more gun control or not is not my decision and I don't think it should be. What I don't feel we should continue to support however is to let persons to own and carry that are that neglectful. In our frenzy to have little to no control over firearms we may lose ground due continuing to protect neglectful persons such as this. Driving is a huge deal in the USA and we even take away licenses from people for their actions.

First of all our prisons ARE full. IMHO our priorities are just screwed up. Our neighbor has had 5 DUI's and just got his license back. He said if there's a next time he will go to prison for 3 years minimum. Hopefully he won't kill anyone the next time. He has lots of problems and we have no doubt there will be a next time.
I am not advocating for any sort of complete gun control. But it seems to me that all concealed guns should be required to be in holsters though, not in pockets. To me it has become a scarier time with the advent of concealed carry. Ya just never know when some ding dong is going to pull one out and try to be a hero, or drop one, and accidently shoot an innocent bystander. Happens every day. I would think it might be more of a deterrent if, instead of concealed weapons, a crook could actually see guys with guns in holsters on their hips walking around a store.

Bryce you can loose your conceal carry permit as well by breaking certain laws while having such a permit.
Pam all states have different rules and laws your neighbor here in Missouri would have been in for a 5 year sentence on his 3rd conviction of DUI, here the MADD group has a lot of power when it comes to this issue and the state law is 3 strikes on DUI convictions and that gets you a 3-5 year sentence. This is 3 in a lifetime as well so if you get a DUI at 22,49 and 62 then your 3rd conviction at age 62 will get you the 3-5 year sentence.
parol boards are very tough on this issue in the state of Missouri and it is rare to get a repeat DUI offense reduced for good time in this state.
carry laws are also state to state as to what rules and regs come with the right to carry after being permitted to do so.

So he loses a CC permit, he still owns firearms and if they are neglectful with a CC weapon they may well be with others. It does not have to be a forever thing, but once in a while losing a privilege for a year or two may wake some people up.
If we keep the strong no gun law attitude we will have the legal system starting to attach gun control to even more things like domestic abuse, drunkenness etc. etc. and we will lose anyway from an end run instead of direct debate on the issue.

The whole DUI thing is a scam in my opinion , ignition interlock is common technology nowadays , DUI would be easy to stop IMHO it all comes down to people are making money on others breaking rules

I would think carrying a gun so that when its touched by a 2 year old and fires, that perhaps the mental test didn't catch that guy......
but hey, defend stupid? NOT!
it just lessens the safe gun arguement

Bryce we let stupid people do many things all,the time I think first offense DUI should be 1 year in jail yet will we see that? Nope as we would have to add a pile more cells to each prison.

DUI has gotten to the point of just being silly, and nothing but a cash cow for the states.
when it gets to the point where drinking 2 beers after work makes you legally DUI, its time to rethink the whole thing

I am not saying there are not other stupid things being done. I am saying that our rigid non moving agenda may well be our downfall. We have amended the Constitution over a couple dozen times or an average of about once a decade. We also have many local units of government more than 50,000 of them and sooner or later a case will get passed that will change the landscape considerably.

Yeah even I think something really needs to be done. Nowhere else in the world, one gets to keep guns so easily. My brother is working with a Los Angeles DUI lawyer and he told me that there is a need to screw up things before they get out of control.
