Well got an appointment today to have four teeth pulled by an oral surgeon. Spent thousands of dollars on my teeth over the years.Three that will be pulled are in the back but one is a wrecked crown tooth that is visible and I will probably get a fake to cover the hole it leaves. Guess I'll try to get a few more years out of my teeth but years of chaindrinking Mountain Dew and chewing ice have caught up with me. Anyone else out there getting long in the tooth?

Blackhammer, I can sympathize, I had my 4 Wisdom Teeth pulled about a month ago. Plus a root canal, and had some old fillings fixed, plus a crown on top of the root canal tooth. It took several appointments, plus a fair amount of money.
I'm 49 years old, my friends that are my age all have had lots of dental work over the years, my kids on the other hand have never had a cavity. Although Leah did have braces, that was five grand spent. When I was a kid, it seemed like me and my friends went every few years, and we all had cavities.
I absolutely hate going to the dentist. My old dentist moved away and I knew I had problems with my wisdom teeth (they were screwing up my bite, plus one was cracked, and one had a piece broke off) so I did finally go to have them checked out and the dentist told me, we could fix them for about $4000, but it may not last. I asked her what she would recommend, and she said pull them as they are still moving and will cause more problems down the road. As it happens her husband is a dentist also, and they have the sedation dentistry so that is the route I went. You are awake, but don't really know what is going on, you are able to answer questions and follow directions.
Good luck

I had one wisdom tooth removed years back. It was quite the event. The doc was pregnant and she was forcing so much I thought she was going to give birth. It turns out the tooth was shaped like a die (as in one dice)and would not budge. She had to cancel all types of appointments etc. I left there a bloody mess. She called home that night (a Friday) to see how I was. I ended up in the emergency room because she thought she had broken my jaw. I had to go back a few times to have slivers of bone removed as they popped up. I lived on Tylenol for a month. It was during duck season and the swelling messed up my shooting. The rattle of the 10 gauge didn't feel to good either.
I didn't go back to the dentist for 2 years! They know they scarred me. They have mentioned pulling the other wisdom teeth and I flat out refuse. They will have to be a major problem before the chisel goes back in my mouth.

I've told antis that before about wild animals. When I think of the agony that some of the coyotes I've caught must have gone through with their teeth I cringe.

I only wish I had all the money back that has gone into my mouth over the years, all totaled upwards of $20,000 with cavities, crowns, bridges, one root canal and finally bottom dentures with 2 implants to hold them in. Most of it to no avail, have lost most of the teeth anyway. You want pain? Mental not physical, have someone remove 4 tooth bridge that cost $5500. And the kicker was that two of the teeth pulled when the 4 tooth bridge went on already had $800 crowns on them. I actually cried when I got the news it had to be done. $7000 down the drain within 10 years on those. Never had dental insurance either. Our health insurance covered dental surgery if 7 teeth or more were removed. The Beav is in the same boat with dentures too but he never had any of the other expensive work done. In his 20's he lost a front visable tooth after it had a root canal. He had a fake tooth which would fall out every 4 years or so and he'd just go in and have it glued back in. In later life he just said pull it if a tooth was having problems. He didn't have any back molars for a long time, he just adjusted to eating without them.
I got accepted at Marquette dental school as a patient when I knew the bottom teeth finally had to go. A lot of fooling around and driving an hour and 1/2 each way but saved a lot of money. Implants normally cost $2000 each around here but at the school they were $800 each. Needed dentures relined, local dentists said $6-700. The dental school did it for $191 and it took about and hour and 1/2. I realize dentists have a lot of expenses for equipment and employees but I think dentistry is a big racket. Talk about price fixing, at least dentists around here all charge the same prices for work.
I feel bad for people who have major problems and just can't ever afford to get them taken care of.
