That no one here posted on the state of the union address?
Was it that bad?

I thought it good address-
the state of the union is pretty good overall, and the programs that he proposed are, to me at least, common sense ideas
the GOP says its for the middle class and the average man- now they can either prove it, or STFU about it

Surprise! Surprise! The haters in the Party of NO didn't like it. But then they haven't had an original thought or a useful policy for quite a while now.
I didn't agree with every point that was made, but overall I thought it was a good effort.

Hate takes an a lot of energy and especially emotional energy. It takes more energy to hate than to love and resentment is a big killer of time, ideas and lives. As long as one's hate is in the forefront you have that person, place or thing in your mind and that is where they may want you to be as it takes you off your game and into theirs. I have commented on another post regarding the SOTU speech so I won't elaborate much here. My main points are these 1. Not as aggressive as in the past and no doubt setbacks of 2013 play into that 2. Minimum wage has support from his party and may get some legs, interesting that the two firms he mentioned have voluntarily raised their minimums, maybe some private sector peer pressure there 3. Immigration, brought up but probably to remind all of us of what the House will unveil with their plan soon. Senate and administration are both for a path to Citizenship the house is not 4. most mention of as many corporations that I have ever heard a president mention in a STOU speech. May be an indication of partnering with the private sector on major isses like education, job skills training and hubs etc. 5. He mentioned working with states and state executive offices to help move forward on many issues. He may be realizing that executive branches of government be they federal, state or city etc. can and do get things done and can move on issues and public sentiment. Probably why we see more govornors running for president and even mayors than we see Senate or House members. Executive leadership is much different than body leadership and I am sure that is one thing Obama has found out. 6. Getting out of our wars will be a popular move for most and it appears that he will get a shot at diplomatic options with Iran and others 7. Significant statements regarding women, they are the future larger income earners, they are becoming increasingly the better educated and work very well in a more flexible and service oriented economy. They are beginning to be not only a vote but an economic factor in campaigns and that is with considerable financial discrimination to date.
There is more but I will end with the statement that the GOP should be ashamed to send up a female who is a good person with a strong testimonial and have her not be able to name one policy one initiative or one solution to any of our major issues foreign and domestic. It was the weakest policy response I have ever seen following a STOU. I don't know if the GOP is that limited, timid or dense at this time. Their time is now if they want to make a major change as the demographic clock is ticking daily against them and especially women and their impact in the work place, leadership. Women bring a family, work and financial aspect to the voting booth and thus they will be very, very unlikely to be single issue voters and they will not support parties with narrow platforms.

I think he sent a pretty clear message to the GOP, get something done or I'll do what I can without you. No doubt they'll spend a whole lot of time trying to get Presidential Directives and Executive Orders made unconstitutional when they're not busy campaigning. Also I liked the bit about hoping Congress would not vote to reinstate sanctions for Iran until they see if diplomacy works first. He was very clear if it doesn't in several months, then sanctions can be used again. I think he made points with women that watch and vote.
I think most people will remember the ending with the soldier, and affirmed our need to get out Afghanistan and stay out of other places. It was also clear the he was frustrated about not getting Gitmo closed.
I agree with Bryce on the GOP follow-up. What were they thinking? Talking about her family was just pointless when there are so many things that need to get done. "We have plans"........... the whole thing was just pointless.

I think he's a dead duck president from now on. His own party is distancing themselves because of the health care debacle.
The only way he can get anything done is to try being a dictator. Whatever that will be is likely to be small ball from now on.
Failed presidency that will wait in the wings until it's time has run it's course.

Oh my the outrage...........
Reagan signed 381 executive orders, GW Bush 291.....were they Dictators?
Obama is up to 168, maybe he will catch up, unless of course the Dems get control after the election. OR the House decides to actually get something done before November.

Excellent summary Bryce. I was also amazed that they sent that nice lady out there with absolutely nothing of substance to say. But that's the Party of No for you, roll eyes.
