I need a little help trouble shooting a problem on my ATV. I keep on blowing fuses connected to the WARN winch. It doesn't matter if I use the winch or not. I did change the battery recently. I've checked for wires touching etc. but can't find a thing.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Where the spaces are on the armature there is some buildup of mud or something making a hot ground.

N50: Are you talking about on the winch itself?
I've taped everything - again. I checked all the wires and connections - again. I only have one fuse left and I tied the winch a little while shaking every wire. No problem.
I would have to winch something to see for sure but I don't want to use my last fuse. The next time I go to town i'll buy more but until then I want to have the option of using the winch even if it's only for a minute or two.
Thanks for the replies. Any others ideas are more than welcome.

5 seconds of werrrrrr and the heat melts the spaces of the copper in the electrical motor , the crude between the copper shorts out. Motor overhaul time but have new berrings to put in and new?? Magnet/ springey to put in If the copper plates are black then thre has been an arching there

I take it you have a multi-tester? If so, you need to find out how many amps you're drawing first. Find the specs and make sure you're within parameters. If not, I would hook it up to a battery directly, then measure your amps. If not within specs, it could be your motor failing due to any number of things. If it does draw too much, take the casing off if you can, run the motor and feel if it gets REALLY hot. I use an infrared thermometer for issues like this and it helps greatly, lessens the guess work. Good luck.

I used it a few times this week with no blown fuses. I have a few trees to haul today with it too.
Now I put the fuse in before using and remove it immediately afterwards! I have 4 new fuses so that will get old fast.
Thanks for the help.
