"so pam we limit technology for the better cause?"
Nope, we don't have to limit technology, simply adjust regulations and safety rules so they evolve to fit the ever changing technology and times. We have done that with auto's, seat belts, anti lock brakes, air bags, the new requirements will include back up camera's and alarms. It may not be a 20 mph speed limit but those changes will and have undoubtedly saved lives.
"The 10 round argument isn't about whether I need one to shoot shoot an animal or a target, it's about you thinking you have the obligation to tell me what my choices should be? "
I think it's more about the attitude of self entitlement (my, me and mine, "just because I can") and lack of concern for consequences on innocent people by entities like the NRA types in general than any sort of "obligation" on my part. Some things should just be common sense.
As far as me being appalled.........I once attended the SHOT SHOW in New Orleans back in the 90's. Not only was I appalled, but I was downright scared. I just couldn't fathom all firepower and accessories that were on the market and undoubtedly going to make it into the hands of anyone who could afford it, enemies or friends. And it has.
As for the NRA founded to improve the markmanship of their troops, no way could the Generals have imagined that one day the NRA would make a pronouncement that they way to end violence in our schools would be to have teachers in the classrooms carry guns. The estemeed Sherrif Arpaio has come up with a great idea, no doubt also endorsed the the NRA: ........"An Arizona sheriff has announced plans to deploy an armed volunteer posse to protect Phoenix-area students in the wake of the mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school." Volunteer posse's for God's Sake?
I don't know what the solution is, but some sort of attitude adjustment is in order.
Cheers, Pam

so pam what makes 10 the correct number of rounds for a pistol or rifle? Why not 8, 12, 15?
It is a number nothing more. Give me a comp shooter with an 8 round mag and mag well pistol versus a newbie with a 12-15 round mag and see who can do what in 30 seconds of time.

"If someone needs more than 10 shots to kill something or shoot a bull's eye in a target then they probably shouldn't be let loose with a gun in the first place."
Then why do the police and armed forces want the same 12-15 round handguns that I want?
"How much of an inconvenince is it really to have to wait a day or two to pick up a gun? When you buy a new car you generally have to wait a day or two to pick it up. If you want a loan to buy a house sometimes you have to wait month or more. An honest person should have no problem waiting a day or two for a gun."
Why should we add a new requirement for gun purchases, when existing laws on the subject are not enforced? Federal gun purchase affidavits and background checks have stopped more than 600,000 illegal gun sales. Yet, less than 100 of these illegal purchase attempts have ever been investigated and prosecuted by federal authorities.
Which leaves felons, fugitives, illegal aliens, druggies, people who are subject to domestic violence convictions, and people who have previously been adjudicated mentally ill free to go steal another gun or buy it in a private sale. Here in Anchorage, you can actually sell your used gun (of some types, not including hunting rifles and shotguns) for more than it retails in the gun shop.
That is, so long as you don't mind having all sorts of creepy looking people come to your house to look at your gun. Or you could meet them in a deserted parking lot for the transaction.
How about this idea: enforce existing laws before we add new ones to an already apparently overworked federal law enforcement agency?

I'm not sure the police should have them given what we see nowadays on the videos of examples of police officers using deadly force. Last winter there were 3 incidents in the same city near where I was where cops were shot, as it turned out in each case it was not the supposed bad guy who shot the officers but other officers going hog wild with their Glocks. They never hit the supposed bad guys either. My suggestion to a patrol captain I knew was to use the 'Andy Griffith Show' as a guideline, officers could carry a handgun, but were only allowed one bullet in their shirt pocket, like Deputy Barney Fife.

It's that 'ole testosterone thing LOL
The only time you guys will really have to worry about gun control is when women make up the majority of Representatves, Senators and Judges. I won't live to see it but maybe my daughters or granddaughter will.
Until then, fire away.
Cheers, Pam

FWS not a gun problem. More of a who they are hiring problem in many cases. Law eforcement isn't a great paying job and today more than ever we are sadly seeing in some cities people getting hired on that frankly shouldn't be.
Shooing guns pam is not a male thing only, the large market is now woman in many states that carry a handgun for protection. Look at sales of smaller conceal carry guns and conceal purses sell like hot cakes.

That's the truth, almost every woman in my office packs a gun. About twice a year we all get together and go shooting.
They mostly shoot .380's and 9mm's and they all love the AK-47. They like it more than the guys do.

On the West Coast, law-enforcement jobs tend to be pretty well-paying. Some of the cops here pull in $150k including OT.

"...they all love the AK-47." How many of them actually own one, or are they shooting yours? According to this article: today.msnbc.msn.com/id/44690575/ns/today-today_news/t/chicks-guns-some-million-us-women-pack-heat/ around 15 million women out of 157.1 million do own guns in this country. My guess is that, unless they were in the military or involved with law enforcement they are involved with guns (and/or hunting) because their fathers, husbands or boyfriends got them interested. My dad took my Mother and me pheasant, squirrel and deer hunting and then I went deer hunting when I got married. I just lost interest in hunting about 30 years ago. One daughter goes turkey hunting with her Dad (she won't go deer hunting) and the other went deer hunting and had to shoot ducks and geese for her job but really doesn't like shooting them. We could all handle guns if we needed to, but none of us would every carry one around every day, nor would we EVER have a loaded gun in the house. If the Beav had been interested in target shooting I probably would have gotten in it too and been decent at it. So my point is, out of the 15 million women with guns, I doubt very much many of them just went to buy guns on their own without the influence of the men in their lives. Cheers Pam

Pam some of what you say is true, but I have sold many guns to woman with no man in their life. They are responsible and wouldn't think to shoot until they have been trained properly. A good friend does conceal/carry training he say's his classes are now 35-40 percent woman many single to boot.

About half probably are influenced by men, the other half aren't.
It's a big thing now days Pam, at least around here.
Have you seen the clothing line "girls with guns"? Scheels has it all displayed from and center.
