I find this hilarious and completely sad at the same time . Of course McConnell's demand was a fraud. THAT to me is what is the most shocking here, not the fact that it became clear that it was a fraud as he himself filibustered it. And it's not the first time that the GOP has done this.
The idea is always the same: take advantage of people's ignorance about how the Senate works to force a vote on a bill BEFORE the negotiations are over ( at a time when Senators cannot possibly be expected to vote "yes"), and then use the fact that the Dem Senate didn't vote yes in order to make people believe that the Dems in Congress strongly reject Obama's proposal, which of course is totally false.
How much lower can these people get? We have them filibustering themselves, eating their own, and voting against the UN treaty because they are a bunch if insane conspiracy theorists, who believe the UN would come in their homes and take their disabled kids.
To make it even worse, we are subjected to their ignorant followers, who every time one of theirs totally screw up like this, they say it is a made up story, while they go around telling stories that have to come from a web site called wemakeshitup.com, and EVERY poll that doesn't tell them what they want to hear has to be more left wing conspiracies, even though they embarrassed themselves to no end just a month ago with that same bogus BS. I swear that every day I wake up feeling like I was transported to an alternate universe, where half the inhabitants are operating on one functioning brain cell.
So WHY is it that the GOP is using obscure congressional tricks in order to make the American people believe that the Dems in Congress do not support an Obama proposal that the GOP wants to reject without taking full responsibility for the fact that they block it?
Because, for over a decade now, the GOP has no longer had the guts to STAND UP for what they believe in.
It's clearly no coincidence that an etch-a-sketcher won the 2012 GOP primaries. The GOP no longer believes that their ideas will be able to convince a majority of the American people, and this lack of confidence in its own ideology makes them so desperate that they became willing to do ANYTHING and to tell the worst lies in the hope that people will still elect them.
It's a shame. We urgently need REAL conservatives again, because a democracy can only be thriving if you have at least TWO serious political parties.
