LA joins 'Meatless Mondays' campaignLOS ANGELES, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles City Council has declared Meatless Mondays, joining other cities in urging residents to go vegetarian once a week. The resolution adopted this week makes Los Angles the largest city so far to join the Meatless Monday campaign, NBC News reported. The effort was launched in 2003 at the school of public health at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Councilwoman Jan Perry, one of the sponsors, said eating meat has been associated with health problems including a higher risk of many cancers. She cited the environmental problems associated with meat, which takes far more resources per pound to produce than the same amount of plant protein.

Reminds me of the old meatless Fridays that Catholics observed for years. In grade school we all had mac and cheese for lunch every Friday, Catholic or not.
Cheers, Pam

Just a symbolic act by the LA city council that will be completely ignored by the citizenry. About 50% of the residents of LA are Latinos who will laugh at the zany white folk who push this as they slap the carne asada and pollo on the grill. Same with the black community, the Asians, Pacific islanders, and most everyone else. The campaign is actually funded by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, which is funded by billionaire NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Of the 16 oz or less soft drink in NYC fame......... That wouldn't really qualify as vegetarian since cheese is made from milk that is taken from a cow against her will, thus furthering the oppression of non human women.
