No reports yet of non resident hunters taking a wolf to fill their $250 tag. 33 wolves killed in Minnesota hunting openerKARE 11 Nov 4, 2012 The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reports 33 wolves were killed in the first day of the legal wolf hunting season. According to the DNR's website, hunters reported harvesting twelve wolves in the North West region, five in the East Central region and sixteen in the North East region. The early wolf hunting season started on Saturday and continues through November 18. In some areas of the state, the season ends earlier on November 11. Before hunting each morning, hunters are required to check the season status by calling 1-888-706-6367 or by visiting mndnr.gov/hunting/wolf. Hunters are also required to register wolves by 10 p.m. on the day of harvest so that the DNR can accurately monitor the wolf numbers in each region.

I say fill the quota as early as possible and hope for a larger one next year. The beauty of a "quota" system. It allows it to ebb and flow with the population structure of a population. Seeings how they will never allow the wolf as an open species. Smart move on using the quota deal on their part.

I just hope it gets filled. Trapped an area this past week with my college rooommate, that he has always caught his 2 otters. Places he caught otters, were bone dry and we were running DPs there in the bottom of the creek bed. And we didn't catch a single otter in 6 checks, but did kill 300 plus coons, about 100 short of where we should of been.
