Would this work good for dispatching coon and coyotes in a hand gun? Jim

I would think so, I use CB cap so they even less performance.

Even a standard .22 should be sub-sonic in a handgun.

Why the interest in "subsonic"? Regular long rifle pass through without damage. Do you want a bullet to stay inside, or what?

I thought it was a quieter way to dispatch. Jim

Handgun will be louder anyway.

I would think so, I use CB cap so they even less performance. I'm with Bill, I use CB's when trapping or coon hunting and they work well. I've shot coon out of 80 foot tall virgin timber Ash trees with no issue. Just gotta hit them in the head.

I got a couple boxes of the new CCI "QUIET" ammo to try ..710fps/40grains....I know I love my CB's but we all experiment.

Would this work good for dispatching coon and coyotes in a hand gun? Jim well, if the question is dispatching coon, I don't see where it matters? But, if noise is a problem, I guess subsonic might not be quite as loud as regular velocity? How it compares with CB caps is an interesting question. I assume we are talking about urban areas where noise is a factor? If it is really a problem, I think a choke pole is a better choice. LB

Choke poles don't work with a coon in a trap tangled up in an undercut river bank. Jim

Lead by example. Teach the little rascals to stay out of undercut river banks, and to remain calm so they won't get tangled up if they manage to get snagged in a trap.

Kill the Coons with the least expensive .22 hollow point ammo you can find. 90-95 % of the bullets will be falling off of the inside of hide when you skin it.
I buy the least Expensive Bulk .22 LR ammo that I can find. Then put it into pill bottles or other such containers that will sit on the dash of the truck and not spill. I then reload the "clip" after each trip down to the Creek before getting to the next stop. Time is Money. Do the same thing the same way at each stop. saves time makes money.
I try to shoot in the head at the point where an imaginary line from ear to opposite eye from each side crosses. DO NOT fall for the old between the Eyes bull crap as the result is less than satisfactory.
If you can't get the point mentioned above shoot the sucker in the ear. Kills them DEAD.

I have had good luck with cci segmented hp subsonics out of my 10/22 12" barrel with shroud and see no issue with using them in a pistol. Velocity of 1050 fps.

Subsonics out of a revolver/pistol deliver adequate killing power for coon and coyote HEAD shots without the mess.

How do subsonics cycle in a semi auto pistol? Many of the newer semi's won't cycle low powdered rounds very well.
I buy american eagle 22 HP and don't worry about it.

The Rem subsonics cycle in my Mark II.
In fact, that is why I started using them. I wanted a low velolicty round that would cycle in my semi.

No semis legal for hunting or dispatch ...

"No semis legal for hunting or dispatch ..."
I am always amazed by stupid game laws. Who thought that one up? And, why wasn't it disputed, make the rule maker justify a regulation, why let them get away with stuff like this? So, what's the penalty, five years in prison and a $5,000 fine?
edit: PS the above advice about aiming between the ears is spot on.
