so who has the ballz to crawl out on the limb and tell us all what is actually gonna happen? lots of speculative demand early.. then poof nothing... someone wanna spill the beans??? i emptied my freezer early at a price i thought was good for yotes green skint.... so i have nothing to worry about as mine are gone..

I don't know, for eastern ones... Last year January sale was not good and a month later at the other sales, it was good and the other sales later in the season price were like the past few years.
So for this year... We'll see how high and for how long it will last if it happens.

good coyotes will be worth good money-

commercial types- the vast majority of coyotes offered- wil lbe low priced, if they sell at all

I think the market reports in the various mags are spot on- and there will be a lot of crying from those with commercial coyotes, expecting the big money others are talking about.

if you don't have good clear thick bellies, pale colors- you aren't going to see $30, let alone $50

Define "commercial" coyotes.

I consider ours up here to be commercial and I guarantee you it will be in the 30 range and closer to 50.

you bet- weak bellies (ie thin, off color), dark backs, flawed (flat, rubbed)

year after year after year- I find that at least on coyotes, the market reports are consistently pretty accurate-

the latest-

montana and northern coyotes, in the $70 range, with selects hitting $100

white bellied NW coyotes, topping at $50-60

west of continental divide- tops at $40-50

better pale semi heavies tops at $25-30

good heavy NE coyotes tops at $35-45

flat, damaged at $10-15

he adds- a large havest may result in VERY cheap prices for off section goods

if you are averaging $50 on your coyotes- you got a DAMN GOOD coyote

but I for example, and those south and east of me, don't even have semi heavy pales, let alone anything approahing heavy or silky. I topped at $35.

I'm betting a run of the mill coyote Like we have around here are going to average In the 30 dollar range. I talked to several guys around here that got $50.00 and $60.00 for some of these WI coyotes.And our coyotes are pure junk.
The trim market Is busting at the seems so fox and coyotes are going to sell well.


Where are you getting your Information?

I guess the feb sale will tell us If we sold to early and at to low of a price.

That market report is old and doesnt take into consideration the harvest is down.


We have an ok coyote but it aint a nd/sd/alberta type.

I can sell em tomorrow for 30 to35 at the local guy.

Gary is right the trim market is busting at the seam and they dont only use bellies.

All depends on what is offered up for sale. Coyotes can vary so much and you might have a larger harvest but if there from the wrong regions then does the market little good, what great coyotes are offered will sell well and the rest will suffer. When one thinks about high end coyotes they are locked into a few areas, alot of these areas have high dollar cats and more emphasis placed on them than a large coyote harvest in many of these areas.

the harvest is down? so the weather made rats, coon everything at record harvests- but the weather, following good indications of coyote prices coming throughout the last year, didn't allow trappers to take a high harvest? That makes no sense.

I'd like to see those $50 and $60 coyotes- my best sold for a tops of $35 or maybe bit more.

I'd be real surprised to see a collection of any size, bring $30+ averages if taken in the fall (the type of coyotes you and I are talking about).

Now if someone had a bunch of nice mid dec early jan coyotes, then I'd easily see $35-40 average- but not run of the mill collections filled with late oct & nov coyotes- and thats the period when most are taken in our areas. Just like the big coon numbers are taken in the first part of the season when the fur is not at its best.

its all speculation- the auctions will tell both in prices and % sold- I could be right or I could be wrong, doesn't matter either way its going to be what it is despite my opinion

what great coyotes are offered will sell well and the rest will suffer agree TC

Mid Dec and Jan. coyotes in snow country. I had a fur buyer tell me that fox and coyotes when they lay in the snow guard hairs are frozen into it and when they get up it pulls them out down grading them. That was quite a few years ago when I had three red fox caught in the winter. I couldn't see anything wrong with them. True or not?

Heard that in December that Canada Goose (coat/parka company) were out of coyotes.
Kanuk also buys a lot for the trim market.

When a customer wants coyote on their Parka like my wife did on her coat... you added 150+ for a tinny piece of coyote fur.

All I have to say is we will see.

I've heard the harvest is down.

The buyers around here are not getting any. No snow equals less coyotes shot and there are generally a lot of coyotes shot.

Marty, 60 k is about typical to maybe even down a few thousand.

Your best price maybe was 35 but that was a month or two ago and the yote market has advanced since then.

You averaged 6 something on your rats and if you had those same rats today it would be a dollar better.

If I had the rats I sold in december i'd be 1.50 to 2.0 ahead now and the ones in early january would have gotten me at least .75 more.

BTW coyotes in my neck of the woods are pretty darn nice around deer hunting.

Get into january and they start to break down on the flanks.

actually steven, I averaged close to $7 last 2 times

I have no doubt your coyotes are better earlier, but I trap about 1/3 of my coyotes during deer season and while they do look nice, they still have a ways to go- always on the bellies- the flanks and backs are nice- so they always look nicer in the trap

I hope he does make money on my yotes- make him offer more next year- last year, he lost money on mine at auction- about $800 worth. He gambled too much on top end last year, and was, I felt, a hard grader this time around

"Close" to seven is still low considering todays market.

I averaged 7 cents under 8 bucks the last time I sold and if I had every ray I sold this year, I think I could make a strong run at 9 now.

My buddy averaged $11.55 on 88 rats On the Jan sale all early fall caught. Tops of $16.00 (4 ) and a low of $5.50 (1) No cherry picking just a average run of Sugar River rats.

Beav.......SSSSSSHHHHHHHHHH..........Now everyone will be trapping the Sugar River..........Greg told me that some local got $13.50 avg. on Nov. rats @ FHA. Hope my rats hit $11-$12 avg. @ FHA.
