Checked 7 locations this morning with a light new snow on. All but one have taken multiple coyotes. 6 of the 7 had a single or a pair come through. One location had a pair all over a remake set but just didn't hit "the spot". Disappointing. Other location reactions ranged from just cruising through with no interest, to looky-loos who would not commit, to the ones who basicly told me to go pound sand through circling and kick backs. Interesting that a group of sets that have been producing fairly consistently give up a check like that.

I trap in SE Michigan. The last 3 weeks has been brutal. High temps, low temps, lots of rain, then 52 degrees, next day 23 degrees. Yesterday 2 inches of snow and this morning it was 15 degrees. I have haad to redo my sets about 4 times because of the weather and my traps being frozen. We might have 4 to 5 days of steady weather coming up I hope. I trap in an area that is very isolated with lots of sign. Just hoping my sets start to produce. But the day I checked sets after a freezing, 3 had tracks right on the pan but the trap wouldn't fire because of 3/4 inch of ice. I have so much scent around I doubt I'll catch anything. I just keep plugging away.

Nothing so humbling as trapping in an inch or two of fresh snow. The only thing I can suggest is to squirt a new shot of pee on the backing and wait for the next day. (And just be glad you can't see the close calls and complete snubs the rest of the season or you'd already have your hair pulled out! On the sites where you have made catches, make a fresh set 10 or 15 feet away.

Pulled two of the locations yesterday as one had produced nothing and I felt the other had run it's course. Check of the remaining 5 this morning yielded a male coyote at the location where I missed yesterday. Caught him in the fresh set there rather the the remake. Had misses at a couple of other spots, the holes/patterns where blown full of snow and I think it throws off the geometry of the set in terms of lining them up. Cleaned them out and will see what tommorrow brings. 9 checks left in the season.
