How much did this run you? Why such high power on the scope for a coyote rifle?

All those detailed custom add ons plus a way cool fluted barrel and he doesn't even bother to tell us what cartridge this machine gun is chambered in?
Okay, you smoked me out. I'm not enthusiastic about AR's for coyotes. But, whatever blows your skirt up. LB

Sorry, it is a 223 and as far as the price goes I refuse to add up the total because I just don't want to know The magnification range on the NF is actually greater then what I usually use, which is 6-20x

Oh, come on man, that's the fun part. LOL Here is what I come up with in 10 minutes with mr. Google:
Upper Receiver: Vltor MUR $180 Lower Reciever: Saber Tactical $950 Bolt: FailZero $250 Charging Handle: Vltor BCM Gunfighter Mod 3 Large $45 Barrel: Krieger AR-15 Varmatch 26” with a 1-12 twist $350 Gas Block: PRI Low Profile .936” $60 Stock: MagPul PRS $175 Grip: MagPul MIAD $25 Trigger: Jewell $215 Scope: Nightforce 5.5-22 x 56mm NX with a NP-1 Reticle $1,800 Scope Mount: Nightforce Unimount 1.375” $245 Handguard: Daniel Defense Lite Rail 14.0” $300 Bolt Catch: DPMS with MagPul BAD Lever Extender $10 Magazine Release: DPMS $10 Magazine: Magpul 20-Round Pmag with 5 round limiter $20 Bipod Adapter: DoubleStar Picatinny $30
Grand total, give 'r take +/- a couple hundred bucks: $4665
And TC, you gotta be prepared for those longrange calling situations in New York. HaHa! I'm only joking DWO. If you have it, why not spend it I guess. I hope you enjoy it!! Looks like a fun toy.

Well, that just ruined my day, thanks for the breakdown Also, good call on the long range shots. I can only think of a hand full of times we could have killed a coyote with a shotgun. We ain't in the west

Just wondering what one can see at 22X even in 223 AR rifle? Out west in the open plains and shots out to 600 yrds I have found a 12x-15x max end to be very sufficant and even on a heavy bolt at 15x in a .243 what I get to see isn't what I would like. 20-22x would be nothing more than listening for the thump of the bullet.
The highest majority of coyotes are shot under 200 yrds reguardless of where one lives..........

You can aim for them no doubt with that magnafication just won't get to see where the bullet hit's is all. Each to their own and a nice looking gun but just never been in the AR crowd. A good friend who knew Bill Austin told me he once said, I know when a calling student shows up with a mini 14 (long before the AR craze) that he was in for a long day Have fun with it and enjoy it looks really nice for a black gun, just giving you a hard time.

Well, I thought I would jump on the band wagon. This is my first AR and I have more bolt action predator rifles then I know what to do with.

I have one scope that can be set at 24X but. When the subject is predators, (not big game nor ground squirrels), I have a couple of scopes that go 14½X. As a battlesight setting, I almost always set the power ring to 5 or 6, and increase it as needed, if I have the time.
I found, a long time ago, that at night, anything beyond 12X was counterproductive. The same is generally true in desert conditions because of mirage. I have killed my share of coyotes and never saw the vast need for 22X unless I was doing load evaluation on paper.
I'm not getting it, downwind?
edit: I just got around to clicking on the link provided in the initial post. I now see the problem. He credits Predator Masters as an authoritative source while building his project.

We do a LOT of other types of shooting, not just predator hunting. I find it fun to have so much power to work with. Also, like you said, I rarley use anything above 10x on predators but, target and woodchucks are a different story.

Sure, why not. I was just shooting a S&W M&P15 M&P with a 2.5-8x Leupold on it a couple weeks ago, think it had the Timney drop in trigger too. Very nice, easy to shoot accurately. My rancher buddy bought it to be his truck gun for coyotes and assorted vermin and it's working quite well for that. It's got the 'bullet button' to be CA legal. Not expensive either, I see them for around $750 NIB. I'm thinking I need one just because................ Along with an AR variant in .260 Rem. or 7mm-08 for deer and bear in the timber where all the illegal marijuana grows are occurring on the USFS lands I hunt.

The M&P is on the low end for sure look at GA precision here in MO . Rock river and DPMS if your looking into an AR built well.
GA gurantees 1/2" MOA on there bolt guns.

Thing is the higher $$ AR's hold no interest to me since any AR would be just a fun addition. For the $4600 DWO put into the AR above I can build a couple really good bolt action rifles I'd use a lot more since those are my preference. And probably still have enough left over for a used Beretta A400. Got a 7mm-08 build going on now on a Model 70 action. It's getting a Douglas SS barrel, will go in a McMillan Supergrade stock and get scoped with a Kahles 1.5-6x42.

well I'm in the same boat FWS would never spend that kind of dough on an AR not even 400.00. Something about a bolt action that I really like. Besides if I spend 4 large bills on a gun, follow up shots better not be needed very often For now I'm very happy with my 800.00 savage predator hunter has done a bang up job for the money. We just got in the benelli ultra light 20 ga, oh wow what an auto loader for upland bird hunting that would be!!!! Again I'm not dropping 1400.00 on a shotgun either, my trusty old 11-87 does me well.
