Yep alum but 50.00 each a little steep for a howler IMO.

Lots of decent howlers out there look inot the primos ones cheaper, easy to blow and have good range, remember the majority of the time your howling should include younger types and not so much old ruff coyotes for best results as a recreational caller.

It's a great howler and the one I use every day. It isn't made ot of aluminum. But it is a super hard composite material and they are made one at a time on a CNC machine. Zepps stuf is by far the best commercially made hand calls out there IMHO.

Cal, that's quite a recommendation, coming from a professional coyote man. Mark recently sent me a nice assortment of calls and a couple DVDs and I agree that the quality is exceptional, workmanship as well as sound.
Do you own a Higgins Howler, by chance? That's the one I use, almost exclusively. LB

cal should be a good howler for 50.00 I have a wiley howler from Jerry H the small one that has served me well, made of plastic but has great sound and pitch and others.
I can see doing them on a CNC being a plus as you get more uniform calls, but also adding to the price.
Plenty of decent howlers out there I mean how many are made? A look through all pred calls will show one, you could spend a fortune on howlers and many will work.
Some spend 200.00 on a goose call so I guess it is all relative..........

I know plenty of die hard waterfowlers that have bought their share of Zinks calls. They are made very well, sound great and have alot of volume, but it comes down to is it needed? Do you know how to use it to your best advantages? No different than a 50.00-70.00 holwer really.

I don't think that is true, it would depend on how many were being made, says this retired machinist.

Most coyote calls are small fry compaired to other calls on the market today.

TC39, I don't think 50 bucks is out of line just to get away from the cheap injection molded crap that is out there.
LB, I sent Higgins a Buffalo horn that I picked up on a local ranch to make me a howler. That was several years ago and I never have got anything back. He mentions it once in a while, so I know he still has it, but no luck getting it built.

No comment, Cal. You know where the two of us stand, these days. I'm old fashioned. When I say I'm going to do something, I do it. OOPS! I said "no comment" didn't I?

cal I agree many calls are crap but many aren't as well. My point was in the predator caller market and even to a degree the monster deer market 50.00 is at a price point many won't travel down. I have blown some decent coyote calls that where 12.00-18.00 and I have blown some above 30.00 and mostly the coyotes could care less.
I want total control of a reed and one that doesn't pitch break 75% of the way up it. I'm sure the howler is a good one, but 50.00 in the caller market is at the top end for many.
It also comes down to who is making the music, Randy Anderson was quite impressive with his tonal qualities of using calls, he has a music back ground so I'm sure that helps a ton, he makes alot of those primos calls sound very good FWIW.
Each to his own on calls and call types if a 50.00 howler works darn well then use it, if a 20.00 one does the job then so be it as well. Like I said Jerry Hunsleys little howler has worked very well and it is a poured plastic so the tone is far better, funny thing is I don't think he has them for sale anymore.

I'm not out to throw anybody uder the bus LB. If he gets around to it, fine, and if not, I'm not going to worry about it much.
I had a couple of Jerrys howlers also TC. They were fine and I don't have anything against them. I just persoally think the harder the material the better they sound. Thats why I like the PVC calls Rich Cronk makes and Zepps and the old Bill Austins. Tim Fish makes a copy of Vern Dorns whistle that O'G sells and they are aluminum and sound good. I showed Tim that I had put my mouthpiece in a 50 cal brass and he started building some of his the same way and they really work well.

Sorry Cal, not my intent to drag you into what is a personal issue. But, in all honesty, he does make a good howler. It's pretty much the only one I use. The last one I saw on ebay went for $150, kind of a bargain, considering the work that goes into it?
