Can anyone post some pics on how to skin out skunks correctly, specifically around the firing end. I tried one last year and thought I had gotten around the glands okay but then when I made a cut around the anus area, I hit something I shouldn't have cause I got a golden shower.

I would assume that If you drew the essence first It would be less of a problem. Nice pictorial.

if you will just cut the glands out first, it sure will make essence collection and skinning a lot easier. you`ll never go back to dancing around the butt if you try the gland disection. I show the method in great detail in my fox and more dvd. I`ve never known anyone to go back to regular skinning as stef showed after they tried the other method. IMO, just another way that is faster , easier and more $$$$ and no risk of stink-a-reeno disasters.

I've seen it.... Don't know how you can remove full glands "bare hands" without a splash even if I see it. Its great but man......... well you're the man!
Maybe one day I'll try removing full glands..I never tried it.
The pictures above... We skun like 70 + skunks that day and we only make a mess with 1 skunk ( 1 gland ).... that error was done by Yves...LoL And to tell you the thruth.... we were not taking our time. If you take your time with the knife around the B hole.... its not dangerous.... you can feel the glands... just pass the blade around the glands and you'll be safe

The key to the undisturbed gland removal is a sharp scapel, knife or safety razor. I have been using an exacto knife and castration scapel for years. You can be surgical with no pressure with these tools.Regular skinning knives unless very sharp make it challenging to remove the gland without leakage.Especially the jan or feb skunks when they are full to the max.

bob j beat me to it, I use razor blades, impossible to get a knife sharp enough, well, impracticle at least. and then no loss of fur around the butt either.

I do it exactly like Bob w. shows in his videos.(i also use a razor blade as he mentions in the vids) if you take your time,it is really easy to get the glands out and then like bob says the skinning is a whole lot easier.
one thing i have found that makes getting ALL the essance out of the gland is to let the gland dry a little over night (the outer flesh of the gland firms up from drying and make the drawing off of the essance easyier.)

Since I started using Bobs method I won't go back to the extraction before removel method, I always cut the glands out , than draw the essense. Hey Stef Yves is kind of a scary looking dude in that pic where he's holding that skunk hide up. you sure he ain't from south of the mason dixon line?...B...

I also use Bob's method with a single edged razor blade and going that way you have full controle over the firing end. You can also double check by squeezing the glands if you have them empty. You can also save them for grinding later on. HP

Where I made my mistake was when I hit what I suppose was the part where the essesnce leaves the gland and goes out the "barrel" so to speak. I was very careful aroung the glands but finishing up aroung the but hole was when I hit what I will call " the tube" the essesnce goes out when it's fired.

Get bob's fox video. A wealth of information and for those who already know it all, it is worth the price for the entertainment as well.
