I need about 4 dozen 1 1/2 Duke coils. Should I buy them now or wait for the NTA convention and try and get a deal? Are there any good deal at the NTA? Thanks.

Coonboy, Typically you get better prices at a convention plus save the shipping charges.
"IF" you do not get to a convention this summer do not wait until fall as prices will be increasing.

I`d think it would more be soon ,or later? I`d go with soon the way fuel and steel are going up weekly. like right now, or at the fta. and it`s not like the dollar is going up either.

The last time I talked to Bill Duke he said he was going to try and hold trap prices at this years level and raise costs next year. But you never know. I see Duke Is advertising 1 1/2 coils at $59.95 and with a order of $100.00 or more you get free shipping. I guess I would go to the convention have a good time and If you can't do better then order them.

How bad was Mason City tore up by rain and flood water today? Badly...they evacuated the city on Sunday. They are now starting to let people back into town. The fairgrounds side of town is most likely fine, (which is the west side) the River is in East Mason City where the most damage is.

Just a word on Duke prices .Isaw one dealer at a recent show in NY that had duke 1 1/2 for $45. That alone is why I won't be bringing new traps to the FTA show . I don't understand how he stays in buisness, Must be volume. I have 40 doz. or so dukes but can't afford to sell that cheap. I wouldn't be suprised if someone if they sell for that or cheaper.

when a manufacture undrcuts his dealers, he isn`t in business long. be about like me selling you pee for $30 and then setting up next to you for $25. and when you wonder how a guy can sell less than wholesale and stay in business, there are 2 answers, #1 he won`t, or #2 not all dealers are sold at the same wholesale price. there is no #3 choice.

The basic difference is Duke sells to Distributors and they in turn sell wholesale to guys like me but what happens is some of the distributors sell to the public at the wholesale prices .So a retailer can't compete . Its 100 percent about price.

There is VERY little money in selling new traps. Most new trap selling is a hobby or a service- simply exchanging money.

Every gallon of gas you buy is about $4 so that means if you get about 20 mpg that every 22-24 miles you drive is a Duke 1.5 coil roughly. If you drive 260 miles you got a dozen Dukes. This is a math question if you are just trying to save money. If you wanted to go to the NTA any way than one can wait. If shipping and handling were even $10 per dozen traps than driving 200 miles equals expensive postage. I would like to go to more conventions and support the venues but there are some significant costs to calculate into those decisions.
A round trip of say 1,000 miles even with a tent can cost $300 bucks. Did not count food as one eats at home also, but that is enough out of pocket cost to have mail delivered a lot of supplies, plus the 3 days that one can either prepare or earn income. I work in the planning of our WTA and I spend about 3-4 days on site for our event. I am glad to be helping our organization but one really needs to change several weeks of schedules even with work etc. to manage those days.

Thats right for us dealers also only dragging a trailer full of stuff 960 miles one way paying 200 to 300 dollars to set up it ain't long your talking real money. Its always been a crap shoot but we love it LOL . Then you get a hotel room and food .Somebody tell me why I do this?

It is about impossible to make money at a convention, you just cannot get adequate margins on what you sell. Not complaining, just stating a fact.
At Bill states, Duke prices are a joke at the conventions, I guarantee you at the NTA in Mason City, later this summer, that Duke 1 1/2s will be retailing at about $44.00 give or take a couple of dollars. As a dealer, if you buy 1000 dozen in the spring, prepay them, you can buy them for about $38.00, give or take a dollar. Maybe make $6.00 per dozen, less if you are paid with a credit card, than pay for $100.00 booths, $4.00 gas, plus other expenses. I can't make that work. Conventions are good for trappers buying supplies, not so good if you are selling supplies. Especially if you have to drive very far to get there.
It is what it is, you deal with it, but that is why I do not set up at many conventions anymore. I will be at the FTA, delivering and picking up, but I don't have a booth. Looking forward to seeing some demos, and seeing some old friends. I'll be hanging out at Red O'Hearn's booth.

It will be good to see you again Gerald to bad your not closer . We can make some profit on hardware but you really have to sell a lot of small stuff to make any real money . New traps no money . I may bring some to Pa. but to cart them half way arcross the country for no sales is not to smart.
