All I use. Takes a cat or coyote a day and a half to two days to dry. Maybe 8 hours fur in and a day or a little more fur out I have a big fan on them though.

do you borax them? would they dry if you borax them and not flip them, just put them fur out from the get go? I only use the borax after dry to clean them. I occasionally have put a little borax on a coyote with a green belly. Can't remember that coming up with a cat though.

the reason i ask is because i borax my cats right now before they go on a wire stretcher. i just ordered a adjustable wood stretcher from otis. thinking hard about buying a solid board also before i buy a dozen, i want some comparison before i jump into the deep end of the pocket book!!!

I have sold a ton of basswood yote, grey fox, and 3 different sizes of cat stretchers in the Western states. All of them have been split stretchers and there are alot of trappers using borax as this eases in handling and saves time. I unfortionately had a problem with procuring basswood lumber and was basically put out of buisness for a year, because of it. I have rectified that problem and will be going great guns for the 2011 trapping season. HP

Solid boards for me. Basswood or western red cedar is the best material to make them out off. Jim

marty whats the drying difference on the two different types of stretchers your using? You use borax on those cats?

I swirled them around in a borax tub after fleshing, got them coated reall good.
Stretched skin out first then turned.
I can't comment on the drying times, I put them up in the coon drying room, 80* degrees, and grain bin fans finish them off pretty fast.
I started on Sat. night, and had them all finished, cleaned up, tumbled, spit polished, and on the floor in time for the buyer on monday am.

the main reason for the interest in boards for cats is for the larger toms that i have been catching! they don't fit well on the #5 wire stretchers as far as length goes! cat that stretch 38 and less fit perfect on the wire! I'm still using what i think is the Nevada stretch on my cats and have been getting selects at nafa, i got a top lot in 2009 so apparently I'm doing it right!

I think they're federal. We have some Core of Engineers ground, and some National Wildlife Refuges in NE.
It says "FWS" on them.
