At least... you can still see some brown stuff Just did 2500km (fur route) during last w-end storm. Sure it was fun... Seen plenty of cars in the ditch etc... Still snowing here now... Camlocks are all frozen tight with all that rain and snow. Could check a couple spots yesterday and lot of work was needed to put back snares to work properly. I'm going back there now in that mess again! later

Looks like you guys are working! I sold fur yesterday. Was pleased with the outcome. Keep at it. I'm going to rest a little!

I'm looking more like the beav any day................. matt- getting down is easier that coming up...... had 6-7 locations that were ice locked- but once the creeks start flowing in the center, I'll be able to open them up- its par for te course just awful early- 20s tomorrow and fri (they SAY)- that will allow reopening all but a very few- lori came with, so on most locations, that was 4x on the path, that will ease things until a big blow- but those iced in ones we didn't bother walking in on will need paths broke-

Different country here, most streams locked tight and those that apear open have anchor ice. A few location near springs that ar still open.

if you look close, you can see my truck in background next to the bridge- our longest walk on the line by far but not too bad a walk that day- the edge of the field road blew mostly free, and once out of this spot (pulled these 2 sets) we could walk the high bank- and just me I'll walk the water as much as I can. the bank is normally a long gradual walk down, to the high bank where traps are set- about where our tracks go- no way going to get through that so had to go around and come in from bottom side- when it gets like that, I pull them- too dangerous really- but a good consistent mink spot so try to keep them in as long as possible. this is a feeder spring, main creek/locations are 100 yards or so to my left speaking of mink- had a male in a set the check before before- he got up on bank and matted it down before he expired- all this snow and mink tunnels all over that bank where the other rolled- trap had ice over it- but its warm enough now to stay open so expect a mink there next check-

its the combo of the hills, and the abundance of springs feeding the creeks.
I have to look hard for enough locations to keep a winter line open, and many of the streams I trap, are only open or semi open in certain areas-
thus the walks to get closer where the springs feed the creeks, or enough fast water to stay open more times than not. I've got creeks with traps in them now with the string of sub zero nights, that you could skate on- but they will reopen (with work on my part) when temps stay mid teens or above, will stay open enough to maintain them. It is work, and I'd not do it on a 24 check
once they get very far into the flat land of the valleys, unless a fresh influx of spring water, they are as you speak. Iced in for the duration.

How many inches of snow you got there? It don't look nearly that bad around here, yet. I've been able to keep some rat traps going. Some of the smaller huts are starting to freeze up already though.
Have any of you ever had much luck blind setting the tops of rat huts for mink? It is one of my better sets this time of year.
