I have cussed it for yrs. Now that I think on it. I run my road line starting at 1-2 AM or use drowners. In other words not alot of time for a coon to work its foot. Your thoughts ?
What about lams for beaver ? --- mainly thinking long chaining with a live hold- no drowning THANKS

Did up some Duke 1.5 coils last year for coon on drowners. BAD IDEA. Twice the surface area means half the pressure per area. Even on drowners they don't hold coon...These were new traps. IF you can't be talked out of it, you will have to up the spring rate for coon...but then is it really worth it?. Sometimes stock is better.
No idea on the beaver. I did try some Duke #4 offsets for beaver (front foot) on drowners last spring. They worked really well for me.

In my opinion lamination for beaver would lose you more beaver then they would hold. Back foot catch with a BIG trap and the beaver won't pull out. If your planning on letting that beaver stay alive you better make sure that there Is no entanglement. And use lots of swivels. Front foot catch, I'd use a smaller trap like a #3 sized trap. But same as above no entanglement and plenty of swivels.
But For the life of me I don't understand why you wouldn't want to drown them . Or use a 330.

But For the life of me I don't understand why you wouldn't want to drown them . Or use a 330. I asked about lams not if or how to long chain beaver. We've been over this before. I have been doing it for years. It works for me. I run mostly #3 Bridger on 10-12 ft of kinkless chain. Dont have the water depth for drowning (alot of it is 1 ft or less), Cant dig out a spot for 330s in most spots to make them legal (complete submersion required) due to muck or sand, I snare about 1-4 - 1/3 of my sets but dont prefer them, a #3 coil is my preferred method. A drowning rig takes TIME the water goes up and down I just move my trap not my whole rig. Brush and stumps ( entanglement ) have never slowed me down, although its rare on my line sandbars and grass is the norm. It works for me, it worked for the early American trappers too, they darn near wiped out the beaver in spots and mostly did it with 6-10 traps each and 10-15 ft chains.

I agree, I have on 1.5 b&l tried #2 music wire in the past with out lams too power much will break bones. I love the #4 duke for beaver never tried the offset.

I just had a couple Duke #4- 4 coil offsets around so I thought I/d try them. I suspected I might have a couple beaver slip out but that wasn't the case....maybe I just got lucky but they held up high so it wasn't an issue.
I, too tried the Music wire springs in some 1.5 coils. Maybe they make different strengths (depending on the maker) but mine were WAY too strong for my liking.

Ive had nothing but trouble w/ laminated coon traps, even on drowners. Ive had to power up no bridgers that were laminated so strong, you could barely set them. Lam takes all the "bite" out of digging into foot like needed to hold.
