Here is a nice area to pick up coyotes. Notice trails leading down the draw to this area I have a trap set on the other side to the left of the 2 track to use prevailing winds everything comes to this area This is going north along drainage taller grass and prey species this way. Notice my tile spade this is where the set on this side will go using the wind to my advanatge right of the spade is due west.

I am on the 2 track another travel route with a west to NW wind I can cover it all better IMO, plus it seems when I'm off the main trail I can keep non targets down some better than smack on the trail meaning skunks, coon, porkys less than right on the trails themselves. When I do this the eye appeal is a rock or something else with some longer distance lure a few drops on it seems to work out.
I know if I set the trails that skunk comming down to water will be there waiting, less chance off the trail by 20-30 ft, plus if they short cut to the 2 track I'm on I have them as well.

This area has alot of coyotes in it. the draws are cover, over that big hill is another dam great denning location, but the food is to the north. This area is also 7 miles by 5 miles with no paved roads going thru it. The sheep producer is straight north. To the east 4 miles is the Indian reservation and they sift from there all fall and winter long. Once we get snow cover and end of january I can have this area flown and they will kill 30-40 coyotes in 2 mornings of flying, we can come back ay lambing time mid march and kill another 15-20 out of this 7x5 area. The hills to the south are a divide on the other side is a big flat with a few gulllys in it, it runs 1x2 miles and that is an area they do den in. There is bedding cover also to the east. I can move 3 miles to the west and be on another family group, they hold up in a creek bottom. North 5 miles will be another drainage and another area they use each spring for denning. There is also a 40 acre patch of crp to the SW 1.5 miles. The deer hunters in a few weeks will have them blown out of there in a hurray. Then come december back to it and snares hung in the trails. The cattle rancher had a cow die a month ago they had it slicked up in 5 days. I'm sure they are over the hill by the big dam as a hidy hole, some grass cover but plenty of grouse, rabbitts, mice and antelope to the north to feed on. The porkys was mentioned in other areas with more trees, but I do the same to limit the non targets, if a killing deal I would back this up with another set on the se side of the 2 track to have a wind change covered. The 3 drops is the call attractant the holes would have bait and lure in them. That grass is taller than it looks and also plenty of skunk tracks there today when I set. They where right down on the dam grade and headed down the draw, those deep cut draws they and porkys where more trees will make dens in them, coyotes know where many are for sure when "DA Plane" comes a calling. Yep different strokes for different folks. I will have another area for you to check out on thursday when I go check those traps.

Not close to East river numbers. Yet we are seeing a rebound as the mange is way down.
