Since you've been trapping, what do you feel was the biggest myth or misunderstood aspect that had changes or been de-bunked? Or maybe you feel will be the next big thing to be found out not true/necessary?

hard bedding coyote traps. long chains and 4 coiling, deep covering of traps. thinking that any of that was nescesary. pure old school stone age bunk. right up there with change out to a new trap if you catch a possum. that one is even funny. to bad no possums in the western styates. some of those experts deserve them.

years ago I got a phone call from larry douglas from ky ( anyone remember larry?). he asked what was I doing now. I said waxing the fur shed. he says getting a little carried away aren`t you? I says, no, the wax pot tipped over. sure made the floor shiny and nice. but dioon`t think it increased the catch any. true story.

Burying cat traps for debumking. Next thing to come is to quit using scent at walkthroughs for cats.
Rolling out groundcloths, wearing facemasks and hipboots, stuff like that for coyotes.

wasn`t much sold at a price that was acceptable. take away the surprise rat market and show me the myth on no market. better yet, when you sell in the country this year get back to me. it`s just not there. sold at an acceptable price and sold at a loss are not the same thing. I stand by my prediction except the rats. and I`ll go out on a limb and stand by the same prediction for next season. only reason rats are at 1978 prices again is they are being drug by ranch mink.

Marketing my furs with NAFA this past season. With my seasons catch of only 68 coon I took a beating of $1.95 a piece less than the $13.95 AVERAGE that they posted for the "seasons average" for Western Northern Central zone. My coon from Wisconsin have always averaged considerably higher than this, even in the bad years. The "country buyers" are looking much better all the time. I was offered $150 more than what I got from NAFA by a country buyer before I sent them in. And I paid for an additional membership in the Wild Fur Shippers Council. HP

What a man writes on the internet and who that person is really, is two different things. Honesty and integrity proclaimed on a forum board is never to be trusted.

buck, that is true. everyone but the kids new they were schit then and they always were and still are. some have revived since fur shined ever so briefly recently. they`ll be back as poop dust shortly if the market doesn`t jump again. trapping trappers , the only animal that can be skinned repeatedly

coon don't move on snow or cold
you need an edible bait to trap coon
you can't catch mink consistently without bait/lure
coyotes are hard to skin
can't catch coyotes on large backings.
coyotes are just big fox
