I was wondering if the new LED lights are worth their money.I have been running a Nite Light for some years and wanting to get rid of it.I run in more night time than day hours.I don't really know how long the batteries would last.

I have a standard belt light and love it, but I coon hunt my curs and use it more then the average trapper.
For a trapper, the new LED lights that run around $150(like the smart light) or less are fantastic. They are mounted on a hard hat and are very light. The batteries last a looooooooooooooong time per charge and they are plenty bright for anyone.
Only issue i have is they have two settings, neither is really dim, and I have a $300+ dollar light that won't wear out.
I have seen the "smart light" type lights for as cheap as $110.
Heads and shoulders better light then a night light.

I use one of the nite lite sport lites to run with. Usually get about 8-10 hours before charging. That means when I get done running I charge it daily. Have only went through two of them in 12 years. Always carry extra bulbs in the glove box. It is a compact light that weighs a couple pounds. I have a regular cap with a bracket on it. I HATE hard hats. When coon hunting I use a sunburst eagle. Too damn heavy for a trapping light but works good for its purpose too.

I use one of the Petzel (I think that's how you spell it) headlights. It's a AA battery thing too and it gives all the light I ever need and it's very comfortable. I have to admit, I've never run it all night every night for an extended period of time to really give it the Bob Wendt test, so I can't comment on that. They sell 'em in Cabelas, I think.

My 8 year old uses one of the little lights on a headband from wal Mart. Kinda hard to judge how long the batteries last, cuz it's on all the stinkin time. I'm just glad when it's not in my face. Cost about $30, and is pretty good bang for the buck.
I think most trappers would love the smart lights. No heavy battery, and very affordable.

My big complaint with the Nite Lite I own is that the head is not adjustable. When you are bending down to make or remake a set, the beam of the light is shining ahead and away from the set. In order to get the beam down on the set pattern, I have to tip the cap forward. You guessed it. The cap falls off my head. It's a royal pain to have to deal with. Years ago, I owned a Wheat Light. Awesome. And, it had an adjustable head! I've tried one of those cheap LED rigs, and was less than satisfied. What's the point of a red light? Pushing buttons on the unit with gloved hands was a nightmare. I suppose it's time to investigate a Petzel.

i test-drove a "Quark 123" LED with a single CR123 battery. It has a clip that fits nicely on the bill of my cap. You can get approx 7 hrs out of one lithium battery but can invest in rechargeables too and have backups charging in the truck for just pennies. it's about 3" long and you can get them with a cool white or warm white LED. take a look at them at 4sevens.com. I like em but then again I'm an LED flashaholic!
