when calling, is there a recommended load that minimizes fur damage on coon if using the 22 mag?

The 22Mag will not do anything but put a tiny hole in the pelt. I like and prefer the 22 mag when calling coons. I shoot all Rem or Win 40gr bullets as they shoot the best in my 9422M.
I've also killed a pile of fox, both red and grey, and a few coyotes with it, plus a bobcat or two.

I shoot a Marlin 922M (semi auto) and preferr the Winchester 30 grain Jacketed Hollow Points. I shoot head shots or do not shoot. with the lighter weight bullets I get no exit wounds and no fur damage.
A semi auto rifle 22 mag will make you money when calling coons. You will often be engaging multiple fast moving targets and the additional cost over a bolt action rifle will be recouped in short order.

I'm not familiar with any semi auto 22 mags currently be produced so you may not be able to find a new gun. A used gun may be your only option.

I believe Volquertson(sp) still makes a 22mag semi. They build their own actions styled after the 10/22, but are much stouter.
Maintain
P.S. They are pricey, but excellent quality

Bristleback, have you ever shot any of the[ limited] Ruger 10/22mags? I have seen a few and recently one or two at gun shows. Don't know if thats is the way to go or just go with the Mag Reaserch.

I've not shot the magazines you speak of. MR uses factory Ruger magazines.......I honestly don't know if they're considered "limited" or what, I'll look.
Volquartsen has a stellar reputation, I just wasn't going to dole out ~$1500ish for a coon calling rifle that would get used and abused.
This MR shoots lights out and works like a dream, feather light too.

BB I think he means the limited availability of the ruger 10./22 rifle in the magnum offering itself?

Magnum Research are good guns. Mine is the steel bull barreled version. Heavy but very accurate. It will stovepipe once in a while if you don't clean it regularly.

Oops 39 and Stick............you were talking mags and I was thinking magazines......No I've not shot the Ruger 10-22Mag, no idea why they won't produce them, likely boils down to $, margin, profit.
Buck, ahhh, you been hiding, how are ya? Dodging storms? The only time I've had problems is with aftermarket magazines......the "plastic lips" just don't seem to work like the factory ones.

I like the thirty grain Hornady V Max for my mag research but Cabela's won't have any more till Dec thirty first, I might not live that long. It's a sweet little gun.

HA! Cowboy, you've got good taste! We're shooting the same round. What are you running for a scope? I'm running a Holographic scope, talk about FAST target acquisition!

Believe it or not I get the best performance out of the Winchester hollow points. Gun shoots way better than I can shoot it. The gun dealer said the carbon barrels are only good for about 10,000 shots so my wife got the heavy one. I think he was full of it but not arguing. I can deal with the weight for what accuracy you get.

BF I'm using the Winchester hollow points now out of necessity, and they are working really well. I called Cabela's yesterday and they wouldn't have any Hornday's until Dec. thirty one. Called Scheels' this morn. and they had just got a boat load o;f the Hornadys in today so I went after some. Might just be just be between my ears but mine likes the Hornady's best. I only have the carbide barrel , if it is only good for ten thousands rounds and at my age mine might still have a couple hundred rounds under waarranty. LOL

Hey BB I just have a three by nine Leupold, not a new onw either. It's as steady as I am. LOL Yours sounds interesting.
Got another inch and a quarter of rain in about twenty minutes this morning. Didn't do anyone any good.
