Minn/Wisc Iowa
25% $38.00 $29.00 20% $33.00 $18.42 Near a 9.00 difference in tops for coon from Iowa to Minn/Wis. A 5.00 average difference. Almost makes an Iowan wanna sneak into Minn. How can there be such a difference for states that are very close, and close in weather and terrain? And they didnt even want an eastern coon (mine). Ive never seen a Minn coon, what makes them so superior?

According to reports from some one that was at the auction they only sold 1300 coons, less than 1%. Not knowing WHAT coons sold or even what size sold makes it VERY HARD to draw conclusions from the information posted.

I used to trap extreme NW and NE Iowa and they had coons every bit of that found in WI or Minn, now you get in the southern 3rd of Iowa and there is a differance between those and Northern Iowa coons no doubt over the run of a season.

Yeabut.......is there really a noticeable 10.00 difference on the best ones? I guess there would have to be.

Lumberjack, With NAFA (don't have any FHA information) there has developed a sizable difference in price (most that had ran in the $7 range) because of color variations in the same size, grade and section.

Mn/WI and Iowa are supposed to be a grade.
I dont think it has anything to do with where the fur actually comes from.
If it does dont you think that people would figure out how to ship it to a buddy in a different state and have it sold as such.

Big difference in Northern Iowa and southern Iowa coon.I'm told even a hundred miles south makes a difference.

There may be some size differences but for the most part from what I see when comparing coons even in WI say my eastern WI coons to the western WI or eastern MN coons they run similar in size but they run considerably more very straight hair, clear color with the nice black and silver color mix with much less brownish tint. With color driving the market now those are in my opinion the very preferred coons. They are good size, good grades with good color.

Seems here in PA I get maybe 10% nice size and color, and you really get a bakers dozen with the rest.

Color is important but it's still about heavy furred larger sized coon. There are some decent colored coon in the south. The thing about color I think you see is the real bad colored coon are taking a big discount. And the super good colored coon a big bonus. The coon around me are just OK color wise but they are a preferred coon.I have had buyers tell me a hundred miles south of here the coon are not as good.

In talking about coon prices from different states, it blows my mind to try to understand how a seasons catch on raccoon in Wisconsin can possibly average $12. There wasn't anyone else in the state that had those kind of averages. When I said seasons catch, that is what I meant. The Wisconsin seasons catch for every body else was $17 plus. HP

17?How do you know what EVERYONE got?Green I'd guess 12 was in the ballpark, put up in the 15 range would be close to what I hear.Auction average you better deduct commission to have a true average.

I've seen MN & WI Coon, can't seem to see any difference from mine. I've shipped TOP-LOT Coon. I've also caught chit coon too. Do a Higher # of Coon from the Minn/WI area make Top-Lots? I do believe so. Look at it as a GRADE, makes more sense. My Opinion. STANLEY

Stanley; Top lot awards from NAFA are handed out like candy at July parades to kids no matter where they were caught. I have six from 2001. FHA top lot certificates I believe are from the top lot of that sale, so someone with poor quality fur would never get one. Jim

that sounds like a true statement, but is it? I'd love your figures that drew you to that conclusion, because I doubt that very much, knowing a lot of locals that sell to him-
way less than $12?
$5? $7? $9
the truth, at least on SE Mn coon, is that those selling to groeny, green, averaged that $12-13 on a seasons catch of coon-
