Anyone ever have a dog bit by a rattle snake? ?? What are the symptoms? We were in Texas last week visiting the people that we got our Black Mouth Curs from. One of the pups that they had was attached to me so they wanted me to take him home with us. The night before we took him home I noticed what appeared to be what I assumed was a dog bite. But the way he is acting I'm not so sure. They have lots of snakes in the area. The day after we got him home he started having lots of pain. He was weak and can't walk. Vet gave him some shots and fluid under the skin seems to have helped with some the pain but he still can;t walk.

LKVL, Unless there is a lot of swelling its probably not a snake bite. They usually really swell for a few days but with some antibiotics they usually do fine. But I haven't had a pup bit. Several older dogs and I haven't lost one yet.

My beagle got bitten by a copperhead, summer before last. She was nipping at it, picked it up once or twice before I could kill it. She was tied to the car, still lunging after I flipped it out of her range. Didn't really time the events, wasn't sure if it got her or not. Gave her water, and I'll guess 10-15 minutes later, it was just like you unplugged her. Nose got dry, eyes bloodshot, limp as a noodle. She's the family pet, about 1/2 hour from the vet, brought her home, to the vet, gave her a shot or 2, pills. Well as I remember, she was almost 100% after 24 hours.
Best friend's buddy lost a curr to a rattlesnake. Figured it'd come around, waited till it was too late. Vet said if he'd brought it in early, all would have been well. Never know?
My dog swelled like a toad, I had to take her collar off before I got her to town. And never did find a bite mark., I looked, the vet looked.

I lost one last September to a rattlesnake bite, the snake bit her two or three times, her head swelled like a bowling ball and she died, I could not get her to a vet quick enough. Scott

I don't know what others have experienced, but I have several dogs that have all been rattle snake bit. I don't take them to the vet or give them anything for it. Just plenty of rest and water. Don't seem to want to eat. But normally there is alot of swelling in the bitten area. If bit on the head it normally looks like a melon all swelled up and they seem to drool almost constant the first day. I've had them want to just keep walking a circle as well. If bit in the leg they normally swell up bad and can't put much weight on it. From what I've seen day 3 they should be almost back to normal. The only good thing I seen from snake bite is my old dog has arthritis and it seems to take all pain away after wards. Two years ago he was bit 3 times that summer and he ran around like a puppy 6 months after wards.
