I run one of the DPMS m4s. very accurate and fun to shoot. I only shot at one yote this year and missed because I judged the range wrong. For next year I'm planning on zeroing at 200. should take a little of the guess work out of the game.

I used a borrowed DPMS in a 308 on a job in Alabama for hogs. It had a Carl Zeis tactical "Conquest" scope and did put down running hogs out at 400 yards but...I never shot the rifle at paper to know how it grouped.
Have used different Colt H bars in 5.56 for coyotes and definitely believe the semi auto put additional coyotes in the truck that I could not have gotten with a bolt action rifle when servicing multiple targets.

Tc39, Definitely would like to have one but...I work a lot of different country and each job is different. (At least one reservation does not allow for non-tribal to bring in dogs). My luck I'd get a good one then be working a beaver job in the south and have him disappear because he became dinner for some gator while I wasn't looking.

I am on a large cattle ranch and shoot somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-30 yotes every winter with most of them being what I call "drive buys" and as the winter goes on the yotes get wildier and most of the shooting is running shots and that is where the AR really shines for me. Follow up shots are smooth and fast and if you can see where the bullet hits you can walk your shots in.

I like to adapt a 100 round drum magazine to mine, and I have the "Hell-Fire" trigger system mounted on it....man can that rig spit lead at runin' yodel dogs! The Hell-Fire system virtually turns your ho-hum vanilla flavor AR into a real shootin' machine, almost like haveing a full auto on stand!!!!!! Look out yotes! Instead fo "walkin em in", I literally stream BBs from behind a runnin yete like your using a spray nozzle on a water hose, and "paint" the lead right up to the yote....In the truck baby!!!!!

I illustrate absurdity; by being absurd, you fail to have the foresight, to understand my insight.

Was good for a laugh!!! Can only imagine what the poor devil over the hill thinks is going on when borderbandit cuts loose!!!
TC, some of those transients that you catch probably hadn't stopped running from borderbandit until you caught them!!! You have to admit this type of activity would "enhance" the dispersal!!

Some insight by on perception of an AR rifle. Actually with denning pairs of coyotes and triples a nice AR with a suppresor would make a good rifle in some situations. Some of these newer AR's can print tiny groups out to 300 yrds, I know of one WS erson that uses one with a suppresor and has really increased his double's kill rate. I like a bolt myself and not talking of walking bullets into a target, but less movement and quick follow up shots with the cheek held in place is something to consider. That said something about a nice heavy barrel rem action bolt gun on a harris bi pod.

I've got a Harris bi-pod but I seldom get to use it...just never seems to fit the occasion.

Borderbandit is Chile Rojo, AZhunter, original Coyote God himself, hails from that well known "Coyote Paradise" McNeil, AZ
Vic, you need to be a little more subtle, especially with those that sling a lot of AR lead. You deserve to be outed for that post, too.
Good hunting. LB

The original coyote God? Is that some kind of Indian thing like a Phoenix or something?
I have an AR, and it's pretty accurate. Some people don't like them, I really don't know why. I like mine, it's still legal to use, so occasionally I'll use it. I still prefer a nice walnut stocked bolt action most of the time. Though I am using synthetic stocks a bit more now and then.

I have a Bushmaster in the 223 and a DPMS in the 308, both are coyote killing machines. I don't use a bolt action any more because of more than one coyote showing up at a time. I have the lighter carbine style because I carry and use them, no bull or heavy barrel in My arsenal because I walk with them, the weight is better used in carrying a canteen full of cool water. It took a little while to put the bolt down and just shoot the ar but I am sure glad i did. The 223 is about the cheapest thing to shoot also. I hope it stays that way the price of ammo is going sky high!!! I think a good one would be to have a 220 swift built in the AR!! I don't know how I could afford to plink with it though.
