just curious.
my take on the fur market is that most fur is selling better than expected over most of the country.
trappers auctions are getting great averages, local prices to me are as good and in many cases better than last year, and both auctions are looking at good spring sales, at least thats the feeling now.
so- am curious-
and please- if you read this, vote, it takes so little time, and we might actually get, if enough vote, a true indication on how deep this "selling area" goes.
thank you-

Whats this 2x stuff. You either sent your fur to the auction or not.
This up swing In the market was no surprise to me. There were some indicators out there.
When Groney started buying rats In the carcass at $4.00 averages from the get go You knew something was In the wind.

2x the market?!?! Are you not the one that wants all posts like that deleted?
Shipped most of my fur, held back a small % to see what the market actually does.

my God- things between local sellers and auction people have gotten that tight, thart a little light humor is verboten? so you bet beav, mike- Ill go delete that asap!
beav- groeny did NOT start from the get go pating $4 for carcass rats, at least not down here on the mississsippi river, and i've heard we have a decent rat. Carcass rats on opener, were going for $2- 2.50 maybe 3- finished rats were going $4+ average, both from groeny and the local buyers-
alla thohgut, rats would hold value, go up some, but not hit the big highs like 3 years ago- that speculation was all driving it-
its kind of like a gold rush, the rat prices have bene skyrocketing, with no real reason in sight- Gods know, I hope it continues- I got a lot of rats to sell and am gambling that the auction friday gets good prices if so, that will be reflected in the country next week.
but this looks errily similar to 3 years ago- I'll be shocked if the rat market doesnt crash by June- rats just aren't worth that much, in comparison to the prices on other wild fur.

I sold in the country because I was worried we have only one buyer China.i I really thought rats would level off and start going down, maybe real fast.It appears I was wrong.I got a great price anyway so no big deal. But after Friday I'm got a feeling I'm going to be kicking myself for not shipping coon.Judging by what has been going on in the country I think on good section coon you may see 25 to 30 dollar averages.

Not around here Groney came out of the gate swinging for left field. I talked to him well I had a buddy talk to him and he quoted a price of $5.00 on a good run of put up rats. And this was around Nov 20th or so. We already had about 400 rats by then.
I n my opinion these rats aren't being bought on speculation they have a home. I just hope It carries over Into next season.

I agree, who pays more than three ,four bucks for rats? And not have a order. These prices would not be ones that you would pay to speculate on.

I've been blown away by the rat prices increasing from the begining. Beav, Nov 20th is not the beining of season for fur prices. I was pretty much done trapping rats 3 weeks before that. Starting out I was hoping for a $4 muskrat average at auction, then country averages starting hitting $4, then $5, then $6 and on my type of rat looks like they have topped out at a $6.50 average, which is almost exactly what it looked like 3 years ago. Just hope this market will hold for a few years!
Beaver are the wild card to me. Thought they would be going up $4-5 from last spring, which isnt enough to get me excited. But with 120,000 extra beaver on the market, I have no idea what to expect now.

I voted store fur, as I will some. but you left off a category that matches my marketing better, sell to a non fur market end user, or at least non typial, maybe say direct end user and skip all 100% of middle men.

doesn't matter where it is sold- the poll is only to see % of those trapping, sell fur.

Yes there is a market. I sent all fur to auction and fully expect 2 to 2 1/2 times the local value. All that would take is $15 and would meen all I lost is $5 a coyote. LOL

I did local buyer, fur trapper sale and shipping so the poll does not work for me. I shipped about 75% of my fur roughly. Had some in the January Internet sale.

Shipped some, sold some, holding some, still catching some.
Poll doesnt work for me either bryce.
I think paul is right. The guys buying rats are shipping them out the door as fast as they can, no "speculation" there.

They sold the rats out of the auction houses PT this summer, how in the H can there be rats laying around unless they are shipped for a sale or there are targets set on lots. I can't imagine dealer lots being protected over 8 bucks but then anything is possible. I would bet that rats bought by buyers now are on the way to an end user by weeks end unless they are committed to an auction etc.
I bet the bump we are seeing in the coon market especially for put up coons is similar, those hides have found a home while or before the buyers were bidding on the lots.
