I bought a new pup. It is an alaskan husky. The lineage is pretty good. The father is a Coalfoot and the female is a Swingly (as in Doug Swingly of the Iditarod). It is 3 months old. Not an easy thing to take a photo of because it's always moving.

Looks like it'll be taller than your white dog. Down here news about the Iditarod is about 30 seconds on the tv, couple spots on the radio, that's it. Searched D. Swingly, 4 time champ, that's about the best advertising a man could get when selling sled dogs. Even found a link to Sled Dog Central, another forum. Pups are fun, hope it works out.

The white dog is 12 years old. She's right off Jeff King's sled. He won the Iditarod a few times, too! He won the Purina Stage/Stop race with the white female as part of his team.

In one of your videos you talked about the tiny white pup, I guess the above dog is it's mom?, now I understand why you had her bred. First thing I noticed about the pup is how he's up on his toes, he's built for the long run. Sounds like you've got some good bloodlines on the team. How long before you get the pup in a harness?

This time next year he'll have sledded.
I do have good blood lines. I've also had a little crap!
I have 3 pups from the white dog. One of them is a tiny white female. She's a running machine but VERY small. The males are fairly standard in size but pull extremely well.
The white female can run all day but,as of this year, she's too slow for the rest of the team. She's also a real harness banger. That's a pain when you want to stop. she just won't ...she'll jump in place, lunging in the harness, instigating the others.

I glanced at the Sled Dog central forum, lots of small, unheard of races. It looks like fun, but I can imagine the time/dollars a sledder would invest. Got to love your dogs.
Thinking about the Iditarod, that'd be a test of endurance, man and dog. Going 100+ miles per day, for 9 days. Cumberland MD is about 60 miles from here, I can't imagine sledding from here and back every day for a week. Makes my butt hurt in the car. If it keeps snowing around here, I'm going to need a team. I'm getting better on my snowshoes, almost went down the first time I tried to turn around. Didn't have the bindings exactly right. Might go for another stroll today.

The Iditarod is a walk in the park compared to the Yukon Quest. In the Quest you are on your own. No help. Bring all your gear.

I'd never heard of the Yukon Quest. 1000 miles! www.yukonquest.com/Just looked at the temp in Fairbanks, were at 31* also. ClayT. As the crow flies, I'm 35 miles from Cumberland, about 60 on the roads. I live in Hardy Co., just a mile east of where the rivers fork.

your dogs are so much more shorthair than I would think they would be- I've had the long haired ones. There is no advantage. The snow sticks to them more, they overheat late in the season, and they are shedding machines. As racers say ,"There are sled dogs and Kodak dogs." The Kodak dogs are walkers - not runners. But I've had a desire for a couple of monster malamutes (over 100 pounds) for a while. Just something to use around the house when I go cut wood. They are slow but they are real tractors.

Dang Musher, you're hooked up with the dogs, between Swingly and King.
I've visited with Jeff and Donna on a few occasions. Was always going to buy a polar bear print from Donna. Seems I met their daughter, who races also??
