Not doin any trapping this year so my partner and I have switched gears and done a little calling. These 13 fox brought us first place, not sure if it was worth the 40 hours without sleep.

Congrats! Winning a contest , any varmint hunting contest takes some work.
No cats? yotes?

We just hit the thick brush where we knew the fox were with the chance of getting lucky and getting a cat.
3 points for fox 4 for coyote 5 for cats 15 animal maximum
We didnt even bother trying for yotes. Felt kinda bad for the guy that rolled in with 6 dogs, he thought he had it in the bag.

Good deal, but your point system needs improvement. Here in Southern California, (and we have a fifty+ year history of hunt contests), a gray is worth 5 pts. a coyote is 9 pts. and a bobcat is 12 points.
You still won, by our system. LB

I totally agree LB, I'm going to mention that to the guys that put on the hunt. Like I said I felt like it was a little unfair for the guy with the yotes, then again maybe everyone will target greys a little more. I think its a hard transition for the cow pasture coyote caller types to crawl in a brushpatch with a shotgun at night.
