I came across another trappers stuff while moose hunting. All his marten boxes have these two weights. any guesses as to why?

method to hold conibear springs down, sturdy. so it doesn`t ,or less likely ,to be pulled/tip out of the holding notches

That's what we guessed, too. Lots of trouble. These boxes are not an easy tote in. Buddy would have been better to make better slots.

I am wondering if he uses the weight to offset the weight of the marten keeping it as high off the ground as possible...

They may be for use with snares. If legal in that area. Can't see them being used to stabilize, but possible I suppose.

Those lead weights size look like they go in the spring holes on both sides of the coni. Less movement when the trap fires, and a better head capture. no trap push out when firing and suitcase capture, is probably his goal.
