that's pretty awesome. Border collies are a great breed. Always had one or a mix, on the farm.

I'm partial to redheads myself, lol. But the brunette French girls cause a lot of trouble. At least the Saskatchewan French girls.Lots of passion, ooh la la.But they like to argue too much over nothing. They will destroy a man's heart and soul, lol.
Enough of that.Stef, have you ever used a border collie on the trapline? If so,how did it work out?
My English Pointer passed away recently and I'm without a dog.I will grieve for a while and then look for another dog.I'm thinking of a border collie or Aussie to work cows and would like to use it on the trapline too.I think an Aussie would be good but maybe a border collie would be better for cows. There is a good Border Collie breeder nearby who has won a lot of stockdog trials. My neighbour has dogs from him and they are excellent on cows.
Didn't expect to be looking for a dog yet, even though my birddawg was getting up there.Looking for good points and bad with the border collies and would appreciate any input.
Thanks.

No I didn't use her (my dog..LoL) on the trapline yet. She will come with me only on prospection trips. I'm sure the border collies could be good trapline dogs but after 3 of them ( 2 killed by cars ) I believe they just like anything that is moving like a ball, a sheep or a car.... There's no differences for them...LOL They are very smart but with some little things.. they just cannot understand like ( don't go block the cars ) I believe, for a good trapline dog... I think we need a more "relax" dog. These dogs need a lot of room... exercises everyday and a lot of it. Its all they want and need. Most of them have the genetic to work with livestock, sheep etc.. and they are good at it. In large fields, for working with animals... You'll like the border collies. When they are concentrated on something.... They won't loss their focus. Aussie are more relaxed.... Don't know much about them but I bet that they could be a better trapline dog and also maybe, as good as border collies working with livestock. A friend of mine has one aussie and he's a good family dog who listen and stay where you want him to be. Good luck with the french girls They're easy to deal with ;D

Thanks for the advice on the dogs Stef.I think you have valuable input there. As for the advice on French girls....OMG you must be playing with me here because you are so off the mark it isn't even funny, lol.
Saying blah, blah, blah to a Sk French girl would get you killed.Talk about temper.Yikes!Quebec French girls must be very different.
Anyway,I gave up on the Sk French girl 10 years ago.I haven't dated since. She stole my heart and wrecked my soul.A man is just not the same after the experience.
I'll stick with the dogs. They may bark and they may bite, but they don't hold a grudge like a pissed off French girl, lol.

If you disapline a boarder collie for doing something bad, you will never catch the dog doing it again. The breed is not that dumb....it will keep on doing it...you will never catch it doing it. Buddy trained them in Saskatchewan to retreive ducks, no one needs to train for herding. Someone showed up with one of his trained dogs at a Retreiver trial, insulted the lab people, when they won hands down in the field trials.

They are incredibly intelligent. Just... watch the road. I have seen more border collies in casts and e-collars this year than I've ever seen before. One dog jumped out of the back of the woman's truck while she was driving, two others were hit at the same time while chasing cars about 100 feet from our shop. doesn't kill them, but broken legs are expensive!

Loyalty test: Lock girlfriend-wife and your dog in trunk of car, go back 2 hours latter and let then out, at that time you will know which one is more loyal!!!!!

You're right! My 2 first border collie were hit by cars and died on the scene. Found one in the middle of the street and 1 in the ditch.
