...I sure had good luck with the Sierra Mist this year, Cats sure seemed to like it MAKE MORE! Me too! I have enough left for 2 or 3 sets. Caught one by both hind feet. I believe she stepped on the rim of the dirthole, to rub on the Sierra Mist & her feet settled on the pan. Maybe two hind feet is common to others, but it is the only time it has ever happened to me. Two front feet yes, but not hind feet. Great pictures. I enjoy seeing the catch pictures & the location pictures. The trails seem to be well defined there, much more subtle here.

The trails vary from those that a blind man can find to those that experience shows you where to look.I set as many as I can practically set then keep rotating them if I run short of traps or snares.

Bob, it looks like you're as good a photographer as you are a trapper. Outstanding photos. Just looking at the pics makes me feel like I was there. Awesome when your pics can tell the story of your trip. Beautiful job!!

Goodness, I love that country. Truly envious of you guys that have made choices and figured out a way to take care of your family and still give you the ability/time/luxury to head west for a month or more each year.
Someday.....
Three weeks in NY ain't enough!!!!!
Nice pics all the way around.

Mark it isnt easy at times to keep all the ducks in a row.I try to limit my time away to 3-5 weeks but 4-6wks does the best for me. I have to cover alot of ground each year that eats up time.Permissions can change from year to year, weather etc. and it requires more research and phone calls to run down owners, leasors, outfitters etc to gain permission. Then some is written permission only if purple paint is on the ranch somewheres. So there are challenges that must be met on a regular basis at least on my places. Gotta get new ground every year. Some new places turned out to have been trapped before I got in there. Took a week to figure that one out, then asked the right questions to some folks to verify that.So you waste some time too.If you get relatively good ground you can do alot in 3 weeks time. When you come in after a good trapper has been on a water shed drainage you can come up real short. But that is how it goes.Weather was about as good as it could get in my areas this winter. Last three years were the pits in Kansas and quite challenging to keep things working. Hopefully next winter will be the same.I am on the road about 3 months a year in spurts of 2 - 3 weeks at a time. With a working business it can get a woman cranky with orders, calls and taking care of animals.Ask ole bobw. he knows the ups and downs by now to this on the road deal.Just need to make the catching up part seem payment enough for the Mrs. to let you go the next time. :-*I brought back a little gift for her this time around as a piece offering.

piece offering, yep, generally works. I presume you did mean piece ,as written ,and not peace. ma and the kids use to go with me in the summer to wyoming, then everyone got too old but me I guess.

Yep I spell correctly most times. To some it just goes over their heads others pick up on the true insinuation. Its hard to get it past some on the ball fellas.Mine is getting old too so the piece offering doesnt hold as much interest as it use too.......funny how us old geezers keep it all going like the young bucks do at least for the present time.

I know when I got home this time I was whipped, I mean near physical collapse. first 2 weeks was near wasted in a dead zone ( distemper), so went like mad the last three weeks to catch up the catch in a new area. always something, if not weather it`s disease or physical injury. 4 years ago disc went out second day there, I mean bad enough took 1/2 hour to get pants on . but I stuck it out and lived on pain pills. then is was a mud out, ice storms and blizzards the year after . next year it was spider bites rotting hunks out of me. this year distemper whipe out over huge areas. next year, I dunno, but I`ll be there pounding the roads again. I`ll quit when I`m dead, not before.

Like the girl said when her nose started bleeding........if it ain't one thing it's another.
The bobs hit it right this year. Three weeks before your arrival, the weather sucked here. Rain/zero/snow/zero. Ground froze harder than a whore's heart.
Happy you got some good weather this year.

never ever had weather so nice as this year in ks. had 2 bad wind days and got nippy below zero a few nights, but the biggy, essentially not a drop of rain or snow in 5 weeks. bone dry. had inch of snow once and it cost me only one cat when afternoon sun melted it on a sand bank and froze trap down that night. lol, but only saved the cats life for 96 hrs. pretty sure same cat got caught 4 nights later. here we just melted 2 feet of snow and got 3" of rain in one day. this state of indiana is the armpit of the nation for trapping. no fur, cheap fur, no species and under water 90% of the time. a joke to be here and be a land traper. whicked joke at that.

Weather in NM was great also, did have 8" of snow on north end of the line, but had the wax dirt on most sets. South end, dusty dry, even a few afternoon showers didn't hurt. Could have been colder though.

I have used an old down bag for 35 years for bedding. For sleeping I have slept on hay bales, cheap air pads etc. Now I use a decent cot at times. This year for first time I used an self inflated twin air bed with a foam pad. Almost like home. The air bed self deflates by motor and sets up the same way. Got it cheap from a discount bin at Cabelas for like $10.00. Was marked $70.00 retail on tag. Food I eat a variety of things for breakfast eggs, bacon, spam. deer sausage, ham, wheat bread, oatmeal etc..Lunches PBJ sandwiches and various meats, rolls snacks, fruit cups, candy bars. Dinner can be any kind of box food, pancakes, eggs, beaver, rabbit, turkey, venison, cat, prairie chicken if I catch a few etc. What ever I have time and energy to make that day. Some times it is just sandwiches when I am beat.
Anyone in my camp doesnt go hungry unless I run out of stuff.
