Do You ever think we will get to do it? Or just private ground after Dec. 1. I sure would like to snare the ditches and stop getting 220 Coni's stole. I would think a snare would be easier on a dog too.

The reason for that law is so people don't have to look at critters hanging off of the fence on the right of way.
I support that law even if it is a bit inconvenient for me at times.
My main issue is the dates. I would like to set snares with the rest of my line. As it stands, most of the time, by the time snares are legal, my line is done and the areas I snare are too far spread to not lose money to check them.

It is hard for me to believe that seeing coon hanging in fences is a concern when you could/cannot set in fences anyway, and you can see animals dead in 220's and 160's in the ditch all the time if that was an issue. 30 years living all across Iowa only saw 1 coon "hanging" in a fence. Trapped all over Iowa also nw, se, central, guess I was missing something LOL. Once again based on fear, none the less open snaring on private land from opening day on in the south, I will trap across the fence LOL.

That shouldnt be too hard to overcome, either "no snare set with reach of fence" or " no snare longer than blah blah inches" that wouldnt allow a snared animal to reach top of fence, would take care of it. Best of luck guys!! Hopefully you'll get'rdone!

Thats the way Iowa law reads RK660. " No snare when fully extended may touch the fence in road right of way" The longer the snare ,the further you stake from the fence...simple

here, the lw saws NO SNARES PLACED IN THE RIGHT AWAY, or on fences tocuhing the right of ay- so in effect, all ditches are out-
there are other restrictions that are silly, and were only put in because of pressure from some northern snare people- such as not snaring on public land HERE
a classic case, and one that I see time and time and time again- do what we want you to do, not as we do!
make snaring regulations STATEWIDE

I think you should be able to snare the right a way because most people that are driving around will not see a coon hanging from a fence they just do not pay that much attention an if they are they are someone looking for a critter.
