About time our little striped and spotted buddies got the recognition they deserve. Is That Skunk?Introduction We find them in the evening digging through our garbage, hiding under our houses, or walking through our yards, streets, and parks. Skunks seem perfectly adapted to life around us. But we are less comfortable around them, for fear of their potent spray. As we expand our urban areas, many skunks find themselves increasingly unwelcome neighbors. It seems everyone has their own skunk story. But what do we really know about these infamous black and white creatures? Watch as a California town overrun with skunks deals with their furry problem, and see what life is like for an evolutionary biologist in New Mexico who runs one of the few sanctuaries for skunks. Meet a researcher on the sandy shores of Martha’s Vineyard who stalks her striped specimens at night, and a woman in Ohio who runs a shelter and adoption agency for abandoned pet skunks. Is That Skunk? paints a complete portrait of the misunderstood skunk family, Mephitidae, and the people who love them. Is That Skunk? premieres Sunday, January 25 on PBS (check local listings).

We had a pet 'coon for about a summer when I was maybe 12 or 13. Some fellas taking a big den tree down distributed babies to us river rat kids. Mom put up with it 'cause we litter box trained it.
Grew like crazy that summer, but by the time school started Mom got ticked 'cause her drapes were taking a beating with the climbing, and we turned it loose down in the river bottoms.
Cute rascal.

had a pet coon- semi tame-
but had a friend in Iowa, that had one that was unreal- a housepet, only pooped outside, took showers with him, got cookies out of the jar, etc-
got killed out in the yard by one of Rays good hounds- he sold that hound within an hour
