An ADC guy I buy fur from has a batch of puppies and wants to give me a "good deal" on a Catahoula/Black Mouth cross puppy.
I don't know what Black Mouth means, I assume it's a breed of hound.
I want to know how smart this dog might be.
I had a german shepard/Lassie mutt that almost trained herself. But, she died last winter.
got the kids a chocolate lab last winter after my dog ( the best dog ever) died and discovered the meaning of the term "knot-head"
I don't want another idiot dog.
Will be used for hunting/trapping/fishing/cleaning up the kitchen floor, and keeping loosers away from my truck.

black mouth is a type of registered cur dog, my understanding pretty smart and easy to train, BUT I have no experience Personally with them.

thanks Steff, I was a little hard on the labs, looks like I'm showing my own intelligence.
I probably just had a bad apple.
The German Shepard and Shetland cross explains why I thought I was such a good trainer on my first dog.

actually- that chart isn't accurate for 1 reason-
its based 100% on obiedience to commands-
and I'read seen charts that show the more intellegent a dog, the more independent a dog- the lower he ranks on such a scal
any dog that is a working breed, and bred by breeders that cull- usually has very good IQ
