Seems like everytime urine use is mentioned, that old saw about a wild canine not peeing on their food comes into play.
therefore, the only correct use of urine is off to the side, etc, not at the hole.
I could care less if its true or not- because it has nothing to do, in my mind, with using urine at a set.
I think I once found a dead suqirrel, and stuffed that down a dirt hole. Thats about the only "food" set I've ever made for a canine.
Making a set with prepared preserved bait, or curiosity lures or even mixed gland lures- are to my mind curiosity attractions. they want to roll in it, play with it, dig it- not so much eat it.
You want whatever you offer, to grab their attention and make them want to discover the source.
I don't think it matters one iota if the urine is on the backing, on the edge or at the hole.
heck- think of what you have with remakes...pee everywhere including down the hole....

steve do you really think a coyote can reason with itself as to weather the urine smell he is encountering at a set is mist or pour? ( i myself am a squirt man also)

Urine at the set is very important. Not to say you can't catch them without it, but you will increase your production with it.

Hey I just thought of a new set. The tire set. Take a small tire on a shiny rim and set the trap in front of it. LOL I probably would catch only domestic dogs. Of all places for a dog to urinate they have to do it on the shiny rim! Reckon a coyote would like a nice shiny rim to squirt on? the shiny rim would make a nice eye appeal.

they`ll mark anything that stands out , from an old tennis shoe to a stick or I`m sure even a used tire. in my fox dvd I show a turd on a used rolled up plastic baby diaper someone threw out the window on a side road. shot of pee and a trap and "you`re in the dogs business", lol.

Thanks to the Doc, I learned that all urine isn't just urine. The froze out stuff is better.
Last season, in places where I made 2-3 sets at a location, the froze out pee was the set that had the fur. In some instances they had to walk by the other sets to get to the frozen pee set.

Coyote I keep around for urine collection pees in his water bucket and also on food. In fact it pees on the stuff my wife tosses in for it to play with. It very possibly could be toys are marked since obviously in a pen stuff to mark is limited. Urine added to bait increases it's appeal imo.
