There is an ad in TW for something called the "ultimate spot remover" anyway states that it is this incredible new method or thing (it doesn't really say which) that will help you catch more bobcats and put them on the stretcher quicker (not sure if thats possible all in one deal?).
Anyway anyone bought it its only $29.95?
If so do you think its worth the money?
Also saw where johnny thorpe sold his latest lure buisness (who'd a thunk it) you know where the lure is $10 an ounce.
I think the more trapping mags i get the more i get disenfranchised with the buisness end of it ;D

Not sure of this new gimmick. This is the same guy that was showing photos of 300+ coyotes and over 100 cats. From an area where you supposedly can't use nothing but box traps.

you should have lived thru the late 70`s/early 80`s if you wanted to see b.s. con men at their finest, and get jaded for life. the thing I can`t figure is surely a good sheister/con man can make more money in sales of say lemon used cars, or fake holey roller church scams. maybe not, nta just lost may be a million bucks. same characters still at the helm, muast pay better than used cars. as p.t. barnum said, a new sucker born every minute.

Jeez, if I was gonna get into something, it wouldnt be trapping supplies. Too many tightwads like myself that has or makes most everything he uses. One thing I always said about setting up at trapper rendezvous is dont take trapping related items, there is just too much competition for a depressed, limited market. Those guys got 20 bucks in their pocket and its gotta last them 2-3 days lol.

Amen to that Bob. The late 70's and 80's were something to behold. Since taking lessons from Bob Wendt and Craig O'Gorman I got jaded real quick on all of the con men that were out there. Makes you wonder what happened to all of the so-called "big name" trappers from back then.

salesmen still. I can think of few at least that are doing well in sales, traveling door to door type. interestingly some have arisen from the dead with a little blip in otters/cats/rat prices. it`s kind of insulting to see them again with their perceived new chance to peddle more wares and rake in some money on every deal in the world except trapping, making the demo and convention circuits all a new. and alluding to having been trapping all these years when everyone knows dang well they weren`t, except the new crop of newbies. you really had to see the 70/80s to get this jaded.

I liked how Josey Wales and the Indian Chief dealt with the snake oil peddler.

To me its well worth the investment for good instruction just like any other education. I would have liked to have had on line instruction but other than books and some freebies I have mostly learned the hard way for the last 30 years. Like Bob I believe the real key to catching a lot of cats is hard work. Good lure and knowledge does make a difference but there are no magic sets.

There was a lot of crazy stuff going on in the boom years.
Some good and some not so good.
Lots of b.s. artists out there selling stuff for sure.
But also guys who had the talent and work ethic to make it in any industry or career. They got into trapping caused it paid well. They were businessmen as much as they were trappers. As long as fur prices were sky high, they stuck around. When prices fell, they moved on to something else that paid well.
Nothing wrong with that, the American way.
One nice thing about the boom was it was nationwide. All fur took off, water and land fur. Probably with the exception of beaver. Eastern coon, rat, and red fox guys were making as much or more than the western coyote/cat trappers. It was a great time to be trapper IMO.

Yeah it was an episode for sure.
I've been fortunate to be in the right place at the right time for a few episodes in my life.
Trapping in the boom of the 70'80's, a couple of RE booms in 80's and 00's, the stock market boom of the 90's.
Right now it's turning into a huge buyers market in RE, as big of a buyers market is coming up as the sellers market of a few years ago.
What's the next one gonna be?

joel, for guys our age maybe we ought to just do whatever we want as the next one. at 60 this jan. I`m starting to look at the 70-80-and 90 year olds, the ones left ,and see it`s running out. every day seems a hurry now, quick before it`s too late, be it trapping, sex, or just loving life. It`s all so good that I want it all to last forever and dadgum it, it`s not going to.

And a population of cats to begin with ;D As well as access to the habitats they're in. I can tell you where to take cats in big numbers with legal equipment, but there ain't no way you'll get access to the habitat their in.

I'm the same Bob and I just turned 53 today.
I was thinking the other day how much I'd like to put on a football helmet and pads just one more time and go out and stick somebody.
It would no doubt me being the one getting stuck lol!!
Yeah some doors close but there are new ones opening up all the time.
We all get to walk through the last one however.

My dad went through 2 fur booms in his life. One when he was a baby and the second when he was in his late 60's. Bob and I have talked at length about how fortunate we both were to hit it when we were in the prime of our lives. Booms come and they go in all kinds of ways. I was also able to take advantage of the Predator Calling Boom and it is still going on right now. I just retired from the grind of it all this year while at the top of my game. Several think I'm crazy, but I got other things i want to take advantage of before I get to the point that I cant. Just this week, I gave away all my Lion Calling info to the Arizona Predator Callers in a Seminar. Those boys will never look at a mountain range the same again! It has been a good run, but there are other booms i want to take advantage of. I doubt i will see another fur boom in my lifetime. That last one had both good and bad.....but I believe the good far outweighed the bad.

The ad sure looks intriging doesnt it, about nearly sucked me in when I saw. Maybe missing something really worthwile, but I question whether it can be so above and beyond all the great solid trapping infor already out there, lots of it on this site.
