Question:
Do you guys use short pieces of wire to hold the nearest spring arms of your bodygrips set in pails?
Red O'Hearn advocates that in his book, and I have heard of other using wire to temporarily fasten the trap so it does not get knocked down.
It takes only a few seconds, but I have never done it.
Is it worth doing in your opinion?
ps. I set 160s and 220s in boxes and pails for fisher and coon

I dont.
I use the same traps as you.
My primary target is cats and fisher and ocassionally a marten.
If I was using square buckets intending for coon it would possibly be a good idea.

I don't use wire but maybe I should do something. I find coons will pull the trap out of the box in some cases. No problem with fisher.

I use boxes and my 220's and 160's stay where i place them until they go off, no wire needed.

Exactly, with the boxes if you pull the springs down after they are inserted in the box slots it will wedge it solid..

I cut a smaller notch and cock the springs down on the bucket. This pulls the trap higher in the bucket. Also put a bracket on the front of the bucket to raise it up about four to five inches. Coon seem to work them better without reaching in as bad. If you are having alot of trouble with them reaching in move your trigger to the side and bend one side to run parallel with the jaws about an inch or two above them and leave the other setting at a 90 to the first one. Kind of an "L" shape with the trigger on the bottom of the bucket.

I already use narrow notches and bend the springs down.
Thanks - you just saved me from adding wire to a whole pile of pails and boxes!

I've never had a problem with the square buckets, I fold the springs up to hold the coni in place... the coons don't complain either. ;D
