Randy - I use the small quick links a lot on all of my water traps - drowner lock to chain, swivel on 330's to extension cable, etc. I never had one open. I snug them slightly with my pliers.
Shag - after you wrap your cable around your 330's, pull the cable into the wraps of a spring eye where ever it fits. Then it won't come loose and make a mess.

Ive pretty done away with the split rings and quick links for my own use and went to "Snap links" fastest thing Ive used bar none. Mine are the 1/4" ones. They look like a mine rappeling cantilever clip. run $40 per 100

RK660 - saw the snaps-links on your on-line catalog. I like that kind of speed - but worry about trap thieves, as much of my line is on public land. The ideal connector for me is one that does not require welding but would require significant effort (or tools) for someone else to remove.
The idea of closing the quicklinks with two pairs of pliers/channel locks sounds easy enough and may thwart potential theft. I have used the snap-links for snare extension but not footholds.
Thanks for the feedback
Randy
