Just wonder how the Jake trap compared in power to the 4-coiled Bridger no.2 ? Close....or is the Jake considerably stronger ? Anybody that has used the Jake...how do you like them ?

Hey I hear 'ya coonwacker,it's just that I've R-E-A-L-L-Y grown tired of coyotes making pretzells out of the dog on the Bridgers.I've reinforced the dog with some round rod stock, like the jaws are laminated with, but still they twist the dog sideways until they open up the eye big time.Just lookin' for an answer to a big headache.

I use No. 2 Bridgers, but there is No comparision, Jake trap wins hands down. Take a No. 3 Bridger ( same jaw spread as a jake) laminate, base plate, add crunch proof swivels,4 coil, add a better pan system, shock spring and heavier chain, this makes it comparable to a Jake and well over $200.00 a dozen and the Jake still has features that the Bridger doesn't. You can use the Jake as rubber jawed if needed ( this will open some doors for you) the jake comes standard with everything you could possible want on a Coyote trap. Like they say you get what you pay for. I do know that JC's trap is the most versatle trap and best all around Coyote trap being produced, in my opinion.....B.....

Jakes traps are nice, but like Mike said, they are well out of my price range. I think you can get fully modified #2 Bridgers from Minnesota Trapline Products for less than 180 a dozen.

Edge, How do they compare in strength to each other ? I really prefer a trap I can set with my hands. The 4-coiled Bridger I can,but granted,it wouldn't take much more strength before I'd be forced to use my feet. ;D

While most of what I would have said has sence been done.........The traps on the higher end are indeed very expensive.......I will still buy CDR,s Jakes, and Heimbrocks .......simply cause they are the best and I aint gotta fool with them...........to me that is more important or should I say to each their own........you dont like the price ?? Dont buy them !! Personally , I would not buy a mb trap............others swear by them, thats fine , just not for me .........

I'm curious buzz, why don't you like the mb's? I have a mb 650 with cast jaws that I bought to check out and I don't care for it because you have to work inside the jaws to much to set it and night latch it and that sob hurts when it gets your thumb!!

I caught a big male this morning in a sterling, by two toes, he really fought could tell by the area, any stock trap I'm convinced he would have been gone by the time I got there 8:30 am! You pay for quality and that is the bottom line, these traps perform well, or they would all be out of business, I don't want to educate coyote's and with premium traps that happens hardly at all. I run sterlings, and coyote cuffs, and will purchase a half doz of jakes after my last fur sale, I can see myself buying more jakes if they are as good as my sterlings, because of what was mentioned above. I'm not rich but would rather have 6 sterlings, coyote cuffs or jakes working for me than 2-3 doz factory traps, as mentioned they do pay for themselves and give me peace of mind and they don't let me down. Not a bash on what anyone else uses, but I use these traps because I like the reliabilty of them. Be it fur trapping or working a complaint, I want to hold the highest % of coyotes possible, that are in my means of doing so, these traps do that and then some.

Chessie,
same reason as you.........but will be a little contradictive here.......Heimbrocks are worse than MB's to set as they are the same way but I like them as they are the only trap in that size class so I look past that and cringe when settin them...........and yes they hurt too .
