I was walking the river bank one day looking for sign and after setting a beaver trap I saw a couple of piles of rat crap on a halfway submerged log. I have only caught one rat in my life due to the lack of a big population. IT is really something for me to see rat sign where I trap. Anyways, I put a #1 coilspring on the log under water where the rat was climbing on. I then placed a 110 over what I am pretty sure was a den hole. Then I made a pocket set across the river from the den. When I returned the next day I had a coon in the pocket set, but no rats. So, the day before yesterday I made another pocket set on the same bank as the den was on and I placed a 110 on a log where I found some rat poop. I put a carrot on the trigger and the 110 is above the waver on the side of the log. WIll this set take a rat? I know I may sound crazy, but I would really like to add a muskrat or two to my catch this year, and I am having more trouble catching one than I do with yotes. Any help is greatly appreciated. Yes it will. rats will travle up and down a creek give them time to find your sets. John

on the bank near the log (which is a good set), make a couple of holes with your hand or trowel in the bank at the waters edge- so a little water goes into the hole- a basic pocket or resting place set. If there is a bend with calmer water- perfect.
Make a little ledge to set the trap on if needed- and place the trap so it is about 1/4 in the hole. No bait, lure. You find you will get rats- and don't be surprized if you get a mink.....trappnman
