I made a couple of dozen slim lock snares earlier. I was missing a double ferral from a bag so I used a single I had lying around. This got me to wondering: how many trappers use a single ferral on the lock as opposed to a loop connected through a double? And why?
I do both. I think it depends more on what I have on hand than anything else!

On some locks some folks like the double ferrule system...say it makes for a better action. I don't know about that ,I have only used singles and with BADS and springs that doubles won't work so good.

Used the Snare Shopes J-hook breakaway on the slim locks. with choke springs washer then the single ferrule on the end. The j hook aligns the cable with the slim lock. Made a real smooth closing snare for coyote.
