I use 1lb to a gallon and a half of dirt, you can go less or more depending on what your conditions are.....B.....

That seems just about right, I have never made any, but that is going to change next season. From what I have been reading 3/4 pound to a gallon, give or take.

Does it get cheaper in bulk? If so some of us could get together and buy bulk and split?

I just checked the link. $40.99 = shipping on 53 lbs. of granulated wax. Perfect for waxing dirt. mike

I have seen the term " flaked " wax used in conjunction with waxing dirt. Is granulated, the same, easier to use, same yield?

I was readind the archives about waxed dirt and I did not know that you melted the wax into the dirt. Funny thing is my wife said that I should take the mixture and melt it on the woodburnner and I said that won't work. Now she found out that you guys melt it together and she won't let me forget it ;D

O'Gorman's catalog says he will match anyones price on wax. I think his is like $55 for 50 pounds. It is the shipping that would kill it.

Flaked and granulate seem to be use interganablly by some distributors. Cavens is a sandy like consistency while Montgomeryies is more flake like. Both seem to work well. Mongomery advertises bulk discounts regular price / lbs is (was) $1.85.
Cavens wax suggests, if memory serves me, 3/4 lbs per gallon. For my soil and moisture I use 2.5 lbs per 5 gallons.
If you get too much wax you may experience puddeling. Ideally the water will drain through the waxed dirt.

Dryer the dirt and less humous or plant material in mixture will let you use less wax like Wacky says with his dirt... Heck i dont think Wacky has knows what moisture is except for his martini glass ;D
