your beagles are nothing but slashers and skirters, and couldn't show you a check if you nailed them to it.....

nah- you've just never seen a GOOD walkie talkie...
I have to tell you about the best hound I ever saw- Fd Ch Sievers J & G Candy. Ray sold her as a started dog cause he thought she was going to be too fast- and got her back because the guy thought she was too slow....
I've nevre seen a hound like here- she was whip fast o nthe line, and stopped absolutely on the check and walked it out.
She finished in 3 trials- came back low each time- but in 1 on 1- no hound could beat her- she simply left no line for him to run. So she would move up, position by position, until she was at the top.
She won the derby ch that year, the absolute, the all-age, that absolute- won countless FD CH trials, absolutes- all undefeated.
A once in a lifetime hound- I had the pleasure of running her many hours- and she always ran "just" good enough to beat her competition.

I have always liked the fast dogs, the ones that run a rabbit like they want to catch it. I heard the real reason the slowed the walkie talkies down so much was cause as the judges got older and fatter they couldn't keep up with them!....B....

thats why they make horses....
walkie talkies that are good, make excellent gun hounds-
unfortunately- some owners and judges, felt that a dog running 10 feet and dying there...was a good hound.

Horse in a 5 acre enclosure ? Why would you need them there? Come on down I'll show you some rabbit races where the rabbit runs for his life out in the wild. You know the same place where we trap coyotes . Its the place where if a beagle runs a deer he's out of there, why? Because he's a gundog and he's not spose to do that, it's the same place where he has to account for his game and these dogs do. While I don't have and dogs now myself as I couldn't do them justice working the hours I am now. I have plenty of friends within 100 miles that have nice hounds that they run hours at a time 5-6 days a week. I would compare these hounds to any in the world on rabbits. They can and will burn a rabbits ass till he goes to the hole or they catch him, than the will find anyother " without any of that TallyHo stuff" and run him till he's had enough. ................................B...........................

If the dog woudn't stop to Sh*t he would have caught the rabbit..... if the dog wouldn't of stopped to drag his a** I wouldn't of shot him

5 acres? I've never bene ot a beagle club that was that small....
the thing to keep in mind- is that slower dogs keep the bunny in small pattern- fast dogs push rabbits farther and faster .
But the key is the hound. I've taken my "faster" walkie talkies up north many times for snowshoes, with very good success. Say B- thats what you should do- bring a bunch up here and we will hunt snowshoes- you'd love that!
One thing I've found with many hare hounds- one reason their runs are so long- they switch more than you think

No doubt about it, kinda like the big pack hunts the ARHA use to have, turn loose 50 dogs at one time, talk about a mess, I never did run in any of them but watched a couple. I always liked hunting the swamp rabbits in southestern Mo. and Ark. A hard running swimming rabbit....B....
