I don't know about sled dog's but in the tree dog world the age of a female will influence the quality of the pup's I have seen it many time's over the pup's just aren't as good as previous litter's. I alway's liked to breed my dog's on the 11th and 13th day's and have had very good success.

troy- Geo Nixon keep intenseive records on litters from 100s of bitches- and he found almost without exception- the first litter was by far the best as far as producing good hounds.
His #1 advice- DO NOT WASTE THAT FIRST LITTER
Many guys, getting a good bitch, decide to breed to old Roy- "to see what she throws"- then, if those pups are good- THEN breed to a good Fd Ch.
His advice- spend all you have to breed that first litter to the best you can find.

I agree with that for sure and that's what I try to do when I breed my female's.
