Any interest? Since many of us also use Jags, airdales, hounds in harvesting fur- I think a board set up for that would be interesting and useful.

I'd rather be with the dogs, then in politics

I loved it, though i only harvested rabbits. I was a licensed judge... I run the bigger faster beagles. Little pack hunts when I run trials. politics and the buddy system started interfering with the trials around here so I quit the trial circuit. I wouldn't let something like politics ruin something so pure as a hounds music .. Sadly this fine hound was stolen

I liked those red ones- always had a few in the pens. Fd Ch Close Call Charlie was a good red one..
kyboy... I love those walkie talkies- show you every track . The GOOD ones were tops for hunting also- they seemed to never loose a bunny and they kept them close.
Buddy might be the best trial dog I every had- he puts that track between his legs and no sidewaysm orion, no spinningm, no nothing but straight ahead. Comes to a corner, turns it sqaure.
I think I'll move this post, and leave it as a general opening thread.
Corey and Brian B have offered to be moderators- thanks guys.

Two of the dogs in my pics there had placed the last trials I had them in. The red dog(out of FC brankos rabble rouser) liked very little of being a show champion. Already had his first place win. I like the fast hard charging dogs. In the mountains here rabbits dont always run circles(not often at all in fact). Often they run up out of the hollers, onto the ridges etc.. They dont stay in the bottoms. Slow dogs wont bring them back. they have to have constant pressure. Thats why most of us here run fast dogs. In a way its almost like running coon. Sounds silly I know, its just a lot different than flat land hunting. LOL in fact that blue dog in the bottom pic(northway bred) had a mouth like a walker coonhound. You can really pick him out in a pack.

Great idea. I ran today. Got up at 2:30, only to find out my partner slept in, he was 30 minutes late. No biggy. We ran 2 bear today. Ran them hard and fast. Lost both of them when they hit the swamps. man, I have no clue how those bear can scoot across the thickest rainforest swamps like they are nothing. Once the bears got in the swamp, man the took the race. Oh well, Tomorrow is another day. Hot here now, so only running until about 10 AM. Might have better pic tomorrow. The dogs after a race.

kyboy- have you seen my hills?
I've taken my walkie talkie fd chs and successfully hunted snowshoes with them many times.
the key word is "good" here. Dogs that potter and can't keep a rabbit moving, won't do the trick. Slow but stready, always progressing forward, little or no time at checks.
I've hunted hare hounds, and in fact judged a few trials- and I know what you mean about fast hounds- hounds that in my youth I couldn't begin to keep up with.
I've found that the reason fast hounds run rabbits in a bigger circle- is only becasue they push tme harder.
Curious thoguh- I've laways had both hares and bunnies circle- someintes an hour or more, but they will. How to you hunt yours if they don't circle? Post standers at linear spots?

Exactly. They sometimes do circle but it seems they make it to they hole before the circle often times. They most often seem to run large "S" shaped and "zig zag" patterns. This bottom pic was taken while rabbit hunting on a strip mine. I was actually standing in a large open field. the rabbit will often run down off the field, down the ridge then zig zag along the benches and hollers below. I know it sounds weird but thats the best way I can explain it..

kyboy- thats the advantage of slow hounds- they pressure the bunny enough to keep thme moving, but not enough to run them out of the county or put them down.
slow hounds however, are not deep snow dogs- I always have a couple of"wide check dogs" for deep snow.
