It is 2117 miles from my house here in NorCal to the FTA convention in Columbia, MO. Or 4234 miles round trip. Say I get 24 mpg puttering along in my little 4 cyl. Ford Ranger and that's 176 gallons of fuel at probably $4/gal. average by then for $705. And then there's having to drive through Reno twice, with the necessary gambling stops, lap dances, pawn shops where fools sold off their tools, guns, etc. for gambling money and the new Cabelas store. Figure another $1500 minimum. A guy has to eat and I like to eat well. Very well. So figure at least $300 at the various BBQ joints along the way. Think I'll just go fishing and scout out more cat/fox cage locations instead

Hey, that's the airline that's in trouble for not maintaining their planes I can fly to Ireland for $600 RT out of SFO and camp out in the family cottage for free and catch lobsters, crabs, salmon, sole, cod and pollock and eat very well. I'm thinking the fuel and food costs are gonna put a damper on conventioneering for a lot of folks.

Yes, fuel costs are going to put a damper on attendance at the conventions. The up side is that those attending are going to spend a chunk of change on supplies with current fur prices.
A lot depends on the how the sale does later this month at NAFA.

It's said, you only live once. You can't take it with you , when you go. I would imagine, that there is not much, you haven't done, in your neck of the woods. Live a little bit and fly to FTA-MO. I'm smiling now, thinking about some events at FTA-MN last year. Can, can, can't, can't, sometime's you just have to do.

I'm pretty sure i'll make columbia next month just cause i have alot of heavy supplies to pick up and its close and the wife and i want to get away for a few days and that will probably be the end of my conventioneering days.
I was done with the nta along time ago seems like with all the bs going on in the fta ill be done sending them any money either.
Only two groups gonna get my money from now on the USSA and the NRA.
I am definitley disenfranchised with trapping organizations and supposed "professional" trappers.

Include Safari Club International in your list, they are very active and effective at the Federal and International levels. NRA and USSA are not really players at CITES, IUCN, ICBD, etc., SCI is. SCI accomplishes a lot that you never hear about but does a lot to protect our interests. There are other NGO's which are important to our interests that deserve our support as well.
