I know alot of guys make their own Sterling type swivels and was wondering what type of jig you use to hold the nut to the bent nail to weld it? I know RK660 said he used fence staples and was gonna try some but having a hard time holding the two pieces in place. Any help is appreciated.

Wearing safety glasses I clamp the U shaped nail in a vise and start closing the vise to close the U while holding the nut between the ends of the U until the U is clamping the nut. Then spot weld.Make sure you clamp your ground to the vise.

When I bend the nail into the U shape I bend it slighty past the diameter of the nut, than I go through with an s-hook tool and open slighty and insert the nut, then I let off and it's held in place by the tension of the nail, I do about 50, then I have two pieces of angle iron I clamp 20 at a time in to weld.....B.....

I just use some chain links, this way you all ready have the U bend.Just cut off the end of the link and squeeze the link closed on the nut and weld.
