dukes, like razor blades, victors same as any other ( non duke)factory offset out of the box, under the rubbers. dukes even the levers you could skin with. and every other part of the trap too. regular torture device, inless you file every part of the trap. if a guy tried to make a trap to bloody bodys and mouths I don`t know how you could do better than the duke rubber jaws. the 1 and 1/2 is shocking. look at one sometime, lol, probably cut yourself picking it up. tim rose has had coyotes cut themselve up on the shoulders to the bone on the levers of duke #3 softies. live and learn.

Coldsteel- if you are getting foot damaged on coyotes in 1.75s- you ain't using Dukes.
On short chains, I rarely have an indentation.
Bob- the Duke 1.75s do not have a sharp edge. I don't even file or grind mine.

My Dukes are lock/stock. I know the beav uses mostly dukes for his live market.
I'm guessing an unlaminated 1.75 Duke would cut more than the reg. if you want to laminate the reg jaws, I'd think you would be home free.

Grey's are Grey's you can catch 10 In a row with little or no damage and then you will have some that break bones and I don't know what you can do about It. It just the nature of the beast. I have pretty good luck with the 1.75 laminated and short chained on reds and coyotes.I can't remember when I ever had any damage to a cat. Inside lamination may help some on Grey's. But they still are a very fragile animal.

rubbering over powered traps will not increase performance or lessen foot damage.

Coldsteel , If you are buying new Duke 1.75s , best plan on laminating. Duke also listened to all the whining about need more powere and his new ones are way strong. Bought 10 dozen last year and FREAKed out at how strong they were. I bought em at last minute and seen the results from no lams with em on fox, not real bad , but enough. It was a compression problem not cutting . No problems on coyotes with the bigger feet.

Bob Wendt, do you have any new coyote or fox videos on the market. if so i would like for you to let me know how i can purchase some from you directly. another question what should i do, take the rubber pads off to boil my traps then reinstall and wax? I have noticed increase in yote catches after i boil traps in santi-flush rather than just boiling in regular dye or just waxing.

The duke traps I looked at Had pop rivets holding the rubber pads on. That was enough to tell me I didn't want them. Appeared to be a very cheap made trap and thats why I chose the Victors. Im sure sooner or later i will have to retap the screw holes on a victor but at least I can take the pads off if I want with no problem. Its like the old saying goes you get what you pay for. In the long run you will be money ahead if you spend a little more money and get a good product. seems like the victors will take a lot less modifications oppose to the dukes.

unskilled, 99% of the time you can use the same screws when replacing rubbers on victors- no re-tapping. On the few that are stripped, victor supplys a slightly larger screw that is self tapping with each replacement rubber. these guys are really on the ball now. no need to remove rubbers but I advise just blow off good at the car wash and no boiling, just waxing. The only videos I have are the coyote one, the bobcat one and the red fox dvd. all have pl;enty of info applicable to othewr animals etc but each is geared to the animal it is about. all can be bought froim me direct and I appreciate a direct sale. just pm me for address etc.

Jim- I haven't bought any Dukes for perhaps 4 years- so was unaware on how they have powered up. All my Duke observations are on the older Dukes- strong (long lasting) springs, decent jaws and kind to canines. Glad I switched to Montanas.....

I'm like trappnman on the dukes. All of my 1.75s are thel old ones. I bought just one #4 4coil duke just to look at and see if they were any better than the bridger #3 and that thing will cut you. It will take about 15 minutes with a dremel tool before that thing is ready to set.

Wait for there new cutting jigs to get some wear on them and then you won't have nice crisp edges on the jaws, levers etc.

What is the difference in woodstream traps and victor traps. Are they the same trap. I bought woodstreams and victor #3 softcatches and the only difference in the trap is the swivel on the end of chain everything else is exactly the same except for the stamps. the woodstream has a little lighter swivel than the victor stamped trap.

they are the same trap, other than woodstream sold their trap division ( victor) to butera several years back. so woodstream no longer manufactures traps. they are all (victors) made by butera now and any slight changes would be improvements butera has made on the newer models. the old models are not identical to the newer models, even in the same size and make (victor) .
