I have 2 cats that I forgot belly boards on and now can't get them off the stretcher. Tried dropping on the nose and that's not gonna work. Give me some ideas please. Matt
Wrapped in a wet towel for about 1.5 hours. Unwrapped, dropped on the nose, and it fell off. Tried freezing and had no success. Fur was only damp with towel so this will be my standby it it happens again.

Freezer for a while and try again and if it doesn't work... wrap them in a big wet rag for a while.

Matt, if you have a vaporizer....one of those deals you put in the kid's room when they're sick....turn it on. It'll start making steam in a matter of seconds. Couple swipes through the steam and your fur will slide right off.

Are these solid boards? Were they partially dried before tuning? I have had trappers tell me the same thing because they put them on wire stretchers without turning them. Try a water hose and then dry them out again after you get them off. . The water won't hurt them. HP

I don`t drop on the nose, I bang heck out of them to the point of mushing up the nose end. never had it fail, unless your stretcher is narrower low than high, even 1/16th of an inch. then you are screwed bigtime. I`d run a straight edge on your boards after you get the cats off, lol, and get some of hp`s adjustables.

Sometimes by giving your entire board with pelt a good smack against something solid like a wall or table will be enough to free it. Some good idea,s here.

I am talking about the flat surface of a table top.

My problem is I just flat ass forgot to put in belly boards. They a shunk to the size of the stretcher. Yes, they are solid wood stretchers and plan to buy some adjustables at a convention so I don't have to ship. I flattened the nose smacking it on the ground. Gonna try the freezing route before I go to rehydrating. Thanks guys. matt *They were very dry before I turned them. I had to fight them fur out.

What can help also for pulling is to put the base of the stretcher in a vise and put your hands close to the ears/neck area and pull.
95% of my boards are solid and i love them.

No need to run out and buy adjustables. You just need to remember to use the belly wedges. Solid boards are just fine.

When you get around to "rehydrating them" wait a bit and slowly drive a tapered belly board in there. The skin will redily absorb moisture and you shold be able to get some in without getting the fur too wet on the outside.. HP

All we have is a humidifier. i think that is what your talking about, right? Just hold the cat over for a few seconds? Should I let it warm up first?

Not sure Matt....and my wife's not here to ask her. She puts it in the kid's room when they've got a bad cold. Put water in, plug it in, and moist, warm, steamy air comes out. Ask your wife if we're talking about the same thing. If so....yeah....let it warm up till the "steam" starts coming out and swipe your furs through it a few times. They'll slide right off.
Rick.

My thing doesn't blow warm, just puts a fine mist of water vapor in the air, but worth a shot either way cause they are still stuck. Thanks. Matt

You don't want heat. Water does not hurt it. they will dry out. Heat is not good with it.
