Yes, but a 280 or 330 is a better trap. Cheers Jim

The 220 is a coon trap,if you want beaver, use a beaver trap----use a 330. While in certain circumstances, you can use a 220,you are going to educate a whole lot more than you catch. You will also get more refusals with a 220. Do yourself a favor, use 330s. You will never regret using the correct sized trap, for the animals you are trying to catch. Tom Olson

Yes 330 are THE beaver trap... but in some cases 220 can make the job and will retain big beavers... I've caught 2 with 220 this year and one was caught behind ears and died. You can use it when you don't have more traps... but don't buy it especially for beaver... it's a raccoon and fisher trap! The first I caught in a logging trail, right behind ears! And it was an old Victor 220! And a 43 pound one... The second i caught, by the tail at the dam... The 220 get him 'til I came and dispatch it, so it's a strong trap! This one was a BĂ©lisle Super X 220... GaspesianTrapper

I have 1 330 but I wanted to set the 220's to make the walk seam worth wile to me. the 220's are my coon traps but with 4 feet of snow the coons are not budging and season ends in 4 days, so they would be hanging on the wall, if not set for beaver.

as mentioned, its usable but barely. In tight places, it works the best. Give a beaver no choice but to go through it.

BMead, this is at least the second board on which I have seen you post this question. Bogmaster is a master beaver trapper, listen to what he tells you. The 220 is NOT a beaver trap. It can be used, sometimes, by experienced trappers, in very narrow runs. Other than that, you're either hoping to get lucky or hoping to educate all your beavers about square traps. If you want to make more sets, look at BEAVER-SIZED footholds, or snares. Please quit shopping for the answer you want. 220's aren't beaver traps.

A warden in this area was using 220 baited under the ice and sure caught his share. I've no idea on any problems he had, I've wanted to experiment with a few, but haven't yet. No doubt the 330 is the better trap.
